According to Irmen de Jong, the AmigaPython website maintainer, the Python programming language may be included as standard with AmigaOS 4.0.
From the AmigaPython site:
UPDATE november 2002: from very reliable sources I know that AmigaPython might become part of the new Amiga OS 4.0 ! What AREXX was for AmigaDOS 2.x and 3.x, AmigaPython might be for the next generation of Amiga OS (and much more powerful of course)
Further information about Python is available at the Python Home Page.

AmigaOS 4.0 to include Python? : Comment 73 of 94 | ANN.lu |

You're jumping to conclusions. What makes you think that the license was royalty based?

That's not how it works. If the alleged non-payment of money is fact and constitutes a breach of contract, then that gave Bill Hawes the right to terminate Commodore's contract. If the contract was royalty based, then yes, he would still be able to terminate the contract with the current holders.
However, if the contract was based on a one-off payment, then Bill Hawes' ability to terminate the contract will have expired at some point (statutory limits) prior to Commodore's demise. Certainly none of the companies that followed Commodore (Elbox, Gateway, Amiga Inc.) would have had any obligation towards Mr Hawes.

I daresay Bill Hawes is still alive, but I don't see the relevance of discussing Thendic here.

That only means that they have a license to distribute the binary, and nothing else. Therefore they would not have been able to release the ARexx source code anyway. As for the rest of the proprietary stuff that was licensed rather than owned, most of it was probably replaceable. |
