According to Irmen de Jong, the AmigaPython website maintainer, the Python programming language may be included as standard with AmigaOS 4.0.
From the AmigaPython site:
UPDATE november 2002: from very reliable sources I know that AmigaPython might become part of the new Amiga OS 4.0 ! What AREXX was for AmigaDOS 2.x and 3.x, AmigaPython might be for the next generation of Amiga OS (and much more powerful of course)
Further information about Python is available at the Python Home Page.

AmigaOS 4.0 to include Python? : Comment 76 of 94 | ANN.lu |
Posted by .jon on 25-Nov-2002 21:32 GMT | I think to argue whether this or that language should be included is as false as to decide for any language as default.
These days it should be pretty clear, that it not only is the programming language, that is important, but the services themselfes.
With service I mean
ADDRESS EDITOR.1
DOWN;DOWN;DOWN
TEXT "This is some text"
EXIT
or
OpenURL(foo.bar)
That should not be language-dependant but being made available in a universal "services" API, that can be used by scripting languages (your choice which one you prefer) and compiler-languages.
This offers much more ways to access the information and make use of it. For example, this would allow to have a global database, storing all sorts of user stuff, like playlists and bookmarks, which media-players or web-browsers would read in instead of programmers wasting time implementin these on their own, limiting the users in choice.
We not only should be hardware-independant in the future, but also language-independant. Instead we should deal with "services" from now on. It would be wise to consider this in any future decision. IMHO, may I add...
