"It saddens me greatly to announce that, effective today, any of my Amiga-related software development has been mothballed indefinitely. This means that, pending any unexpected developments, there won't be any "Amithlon v2" (aka "Berniethlon"), nor any further support or add ons for "Amithlon v1" by me."

"Berniethlon" - The End : Comment 37 of 221 | ANN.lu |
Posted by kevin orme on 01-Dec-2002 20:35 GMT | In reply to Comment 32 (Brad Ray): It is worth pointing out that if dealers like Software Hut and Compuquick still have inventory to sell, it's a wee bit presumptuous to put a stake through their heart for trying to close out their inventory, I think.
For example, if SH or CQ had 10 more Amithlon disks, aren't they entitled to sell them? Why should they have to bear the brunt of H&P/HF vs. BM? They are only trying to survive in an increasingly hostile (and ever smaller) Amiga market.
If you don't want to buy anything more from either one, fine, but I don't think it's fair to hold them accountable for H&P/HF vs. BM bad blood/litigation. It's not like SH, CQ and dealers like them are preaching on behalf of either side, for pete's sake.
By reading your letter, SH/CQ should immediately *give* all their inventory away that they may/may not have, on the hopes that you *might* buy something from them in the future (not guaranteed)? That's no way to run a business. They weren't the ones who treated BM shabbily, why should they pay the price - are you going now to not buy OS4 because Amiga Inc. may have dropped the ball in dealing with the situation, thus penalizing Hyperion too, who didn't have anything to do with it?
It just isn't that cut and dried, unfortunately, and we aren't going to know the *entire* truth, most likely ever. While it sounds to me like BM definitely got the short end of the stick, and I was waiting anxiously for the new Amithlon v2 just like everyone else, the complete truth will forever evade us. No easy solution but starting a crusade to try to kill off what remaining Amiga dealers are left doesn't seem like much of a solution to me.
