"It saddens me greatly to announce that, effective today, any of my Amiga-related software development has been mothballed indefinitely. This means that, pending any unexpected developments, there won't be any "Amithlon v2" (aka "Berniethlon"), nor any further support or add ons for "Amithlon v1" by me."

"Berniethlon" - The End : Comment 48 of 221 | ANN.lu |
Posted by kevin orme on 01-Dec-2002 20:54 GMT | In reply to Comment 43 (dammy): and how do you know they didn't order after 6 months ago? Do you have their financial records (or access to them)? That's my point - there's too many variables here and the dealers weren't the ones causing the problem in the first place.
Under your logic, anyone who bought an american car in the late 70's through the early 90's was guilty of violating the patent owner's IP of inventing intermittent windshield wipers and thus should plead 'guilty', including the dealers of those cars and their buyers.
Of course, what ended up happening was the car companies who STOLE the technology ended up coughing up a LOT of money in court when finally the lawsuits by the inventor ended and he won. No dealers were 'complicit' in the IP theft, nor were consumers.
- why is this any different? I don't think it is. And because none of us know all the specific details save for those involved who aren't going to tell likely due to legal reasons, we're simply out of luck. I agree BM got the shaft, but sadly enough he's not a deep pocket where he can force the bad guys to cough up the IP, let alone the money they may owe him. 'Trial by ANN/Amiga.org' is little better than the tabloids, sad to say.
