AROS Mascot Revealed : Comment 17 of 28 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anonymous on 02-Dec-2002 21:12 GMT | In reply to Comment 12 (Some Farker): Lesson 0. The more simply your logo can be reproduced, the better, so long as it remains uniquely identifiable. This is the same as designing icons.
e.g. Disney can put two semi-circles of black on a white background and people will say "Oh, the mouse, er... Disney" when asked. That's not even the official logo - yet it's so easy to reproduce anywhere, and so universally recognised.
It's possible to be creative without making it impossible for most people to use your logo/ mascot. You don't have to aim for the simple universality of some kind of cross or star, even Tux and the BSD daemon can be reproduced as tiny monochrome logos while remaining recognisable.
This AROS mascot though is destined to be indistinguishable from any other furry art though, especially if people other than EWS are asked to make new versions. In comparison each variant of the OpenBSD fugu or of Tux is clearly the same mascot, just drawn by a different artist.
And what a name. Even if "Kitty" is actually a clever name for some reason connected with AROS it would be better given to something else. As a name for an anthropomorphic cat it screams "We have no imagination". |
