>Geez ...
Your point of view, biased and traducted. Just quote him, no try to rewrite (badly)
<Alan /snip/ Alan>
>BBRV: "We finally solved all this a week and a half ago. Plus, we have added a >couple of other features that are better accomplished in hardware than >software (and don't believe a few lines of code will make the first patch >work)."
>And how missleading it is to speak about 40 cents hardware, as if it was the >hardware in this case that was the interesting part (it's only an ugly attempt >to belittle Genesi's efforts). The interesting part is the R&D resources that >Genesi has put down to track the bugs and find corrections for it. And as Neil >Thomas said above: "The extra chips are Lattice Vantis CPLD's (Complex >Programmable Logic Devices). Whow knows what the code does?". Coding the chips >means even more R&D resources. The cost of the "40 cents hardware" is only >interesting when it comes to correcting faulty boards.
Your "point if view" is in the same vain of Alan, misleading. How do you know eyetech didn't do the same (resource)?
>Alan> The important point is to see the whole announcement for what it is, a
>Alan> desperate means to try to throw serious doubt on any competitive >products.
>It's a pity that he looks at it that way. It was an invitation for >cooperation. It was (and still is, IMHO) a business opportunity for Eyetech. I >mean, eyetech sells Teron mobos that are identical to Terrasoft's Teron mobos, >but to a much higher price. Genesi is offering Eyetech to sell the Pegasos as >A1 instead. The Pegasos is superiour to the Teron featurewize, and they would >make more money in two ways:
>1) Higher quantity - Lots of people on the Amiga market (including myself) >would *never* buy that bulky (and buggy?) Teron board and keep investing in it >and filling its PCI slots just to get it up and running the way we want
>(adding sound, adding firewire). The Pegasos is the only thinkable alternative >for many of us.
>2) Better profit margins - BBRV: "We know what Eyetech pays for the Teron/A1; >we know what the A1 distributors pay. We would be willing to match the prices >all around less 5% and provide an immediate solution to the community. We make >the Pegasos. Eyetech does not. We have many of the same distributors. We can >compensate Allan Redhouse through his success (something he is clearly about >to loose with YDL Teron pricing). Hyperion too." And: "If we pulled eveyone >together on this we might even honor those $50 coupons!"
>I whish that Eyetech would make contact with Genesi to see if they really mean >what they say:
>BBRV: "We can forget the past if you can. We need to get into the same boat. >Amiga Inc. has lost its leadership mantel. Selling coupons, promoting >unachievable concepts and making wild claims about the next deal have worn >tired and false." And: "We will give Hyperion a board. We will support the A1 >Betatesters as we have our own. We don't have to trade sources or get Ralph >having a beer with Ben, but we could all move ahead this way."
>Give peace a chance, anyone?
Bullshit, the past have shown sufficiently that there was too much PR annoucement whithout real intention behind. The fact is bbvr knows perfectly that his offers will never be accepted. We call that, "I take the good role and you the bad". In french we wall that "démagogie".
The fact it is impossible for them to make bizness together, they want control of market (AI, Hyperion, morph, ...). They don't want sharing (that's perfectly normal) and they can't simply works together, sometimes hate is soo much strong. Who knows what had happen, happen behind the scene these lasts years... For myself i trust only once a personne, after nada, never.
That's my opinion, that's sad they take these road but you can't change it.
