According to this 11th Jul 2002 post by Gary Peake

"There are over 3000 devlopers who came to amigadev.net and signed themselves up."
I find it hard to believe, based on this, that the 3000 number is actually people creating content, but just people that have signed up? If that is the case, then what McEwen said is mistaken?
