SciTech Software Inc. announcement : Comment 134 of 195 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Ben Hermans/Hyperion on 19-Feb-2003 11:16 GMT | In reply to Comment 131 (takemehomegrandma): To be honest, we have known from day 1 that a desktop only strategy would be insane.
The market is simply not big enough for that.
I'll agree about the quality of the Pegasos hardware, I never made any secrets about that in the past and I consider Gerald Carda to be an excellent engineer.
I do have my doubts about bPlan being able to keep up with Mai and its Taiwanese sister company in terms of hardware development because they have by definition much earlier access to revised chipsets (Articia P etc.).
Plus Mai has a tremendous amount of money and engineers behind it and the industry contacts (IBM, Motorola, VIA etc.) to match.
They are simply operating on a different scale than bPlan/Genesi.
The fact that they hold 52 patents with 100 more pending is testament to that.
In terms of hardware Mai could easily pull ahead quite fast just on man-power and resources. |
