Behind the Scenes of Amiga Inc. : Comment 173 of 197 | ANN.lu |
Posted by ABM$ on 04-May-2003 04:29 GMT | Okay, Amiga Inc had this pipe dream about creating an OS that would run on just about any hardware. Amiga Inc has probably been run on a shoestring from almost the beginning. They have had some trouble making their payroll, etc. I remember reading on one of Amiga's more recent public statements that some of this was hinted at (employees making "sacrifices" - i.e. they were probably not always getting paid). I'm not all that suprised by some of these "revalations" that are now getting a very public airing. I think their biggest crime, if there ever was one, was to try and do to much with to little funding, resources, etc. It's clear that AmigaInc is just trying to stay afloat long enough to make some return for the investors that put up the money. No one will get anything if there nothing left but money to pay lawyers and legal fees.
Now what we have to ask ourselves is if the Amiga IP, band name, etc. any longer has real value to us. I mean, it seems that quite a lot of damage is being done in the name of bringing to "justice" what amounts to an underfunded and somewhat overextended company - seemingly with goal of trying to make them live up to this or that promise. Anyone who still values the Amiga name should probably let those who payed for the trademark make what they can of it. I don't think the brand name Amiga can survive much more of this vitriolic, partisan bickering. Many here seem to be saying that it doesn't really matter to them what happens to the trademark. But without it, what are we? Genesians? It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it? |
