MorphOS 1.4 Screenshot Revealed! : Comment 42 of 54 | ANN.lu |
Posted by the man in the shadows on 20-May-2003 02:13 GMT | Let's break down what we know of the latest unofficial screenshot of MOS1.4. The Antiailising is nice and especially welcomed for TFT users. The Transparent/Blurred effect (popup perhaps?) menu is quite slick. The change in icons was desperately needed, the ones that are with Ambient's first release reminded me of the ketchup and mustard I put on my hotdogs... Definately a bit more professional look and feel in just those icons (on the desktop) alone. The menu skinning looks good, but as another person said, it might be better to shove the text over by 3 or 4 pixels so as to not overlap the 2-tone blue.
That's about all I can say that is good for this screenshot. Now on to the MUI based preferences. Ouch. Let's take something that looks very dated and throw it into a modern design. That's like taking an application from AmigaOS1.3 (prefs to be exact) and dropping it into the OSX desktop. MUI desperately needs an overhaul, from the borders available to the design and potentially skinning of the buttons. MUI also needs to add in layering, transparencies, layer effects (i.e. blur(), sepia(), emboss(), fade(durration, frames, boolean in/out)) etc. The arrows on the MUI app need to be tossed, the list icons need alpha layers. And for crying out loud, give the user the ability to change the color of the borders and text so if they want black background with lightblue text it's possible without any major color hacking involved. Take the MUI app out and you have a good looking screenshot if you ask me.
No offense intended to the Morph squad... just constructive criticism is all. |
