From a news-item at VGR.com it appears that the current Articia-northbridges might still have DMA-related problems:
"Mr. S.W. who sends over screen shots of newer AmigaOne 800mhz G4 hardware, has sent over 2 screen shots of the new A1 with G4 running 'amigaone xe/g4 7451 800mhz, excalibur radeon 9000 pro 64mb ddr ram, valueram kvr133x72rc3/256 kingston'. He wants to know '.. if other aone users have that problem as well..', 'it never outputs the same checksum with dma enabled when testing an iso file which is larger than the swap space used'
You can see the Radeon 9000 Pro screen shots here: DMA On & DMA Off."

Articia: Still DMA-problems? : Comment 55 of 122 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Olegil on 21-May-2003 05:52 GMT | In reply to Comment 52 (Anonymous): It does since even Alan started overclocking his own board :-)
He still warns us about loss of warranty, though. Which is as expected, because some people should not frell about with jumper settings ;-)
Anyway, I don't think anyone has gotten it past 1G yet, but I don't think anyone has actually tried to muck up the voltage on the CPU either. So it might be doable.
And 933 is with the VGA cooler that comes as default. The SE will only go to 666 with this, the G3-XE reaches 933, and the G4-XE has been delayed because it turns out the chips "typical" power ratings are wrong, they should be a lot closer to the "max" ratings, and this should also be higher :-(
It's really a close shave in some areas where the outside air is hot. Other places it runs just fine.
But it's no biggie, because Eyetech can use the delay to ship some other boards (G3-XE), and are in fact doing so.
Also, a quick note to all those who complain that Eyetech are servicing dealers before end users. Well, that's to be expected, isn't it? I mean, a dealer needs to get a crate full of cards, which is _very_ simple to manage. An end user needs docs, CDs and whatnots, and in units of 1. Lots more to manage for a small operation like Eyetech. I think Alan is doing great with little resources. It's just that a LOT of people have ordered boards... |
