German report about Mandrake on Pegasos : Comment 11 of 18 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anonymous on 06-Jul-2003 18:54 GMT | In reply to Comment 10 (corpse): " RMS insists that Linux based *operating systems* using the GNU tools should be called GNU/Linux, as in GNU on Linux. Which is kinda fair as the vast majority of Linux based operating systems use the GNU operating system tools and even lower down, are built with the GNU compiler et al.
"
Typical RMS bull, with RMS trying to muscle in and gain credit where none is due (primarily because his HURD project still has got nowhere).
Just because gcc is used to compile code does NOT make it a GNU product - Linux can easily exist without any GNU tools.
You know what? Our Solaris systems at work havr the GNU suite of tools installed on them too. Does that mean we are running GNU/Solaris?
My Amiga (RIP) had the GeekGadgets GNU suite upon it. I don;t ever recall running GNU/AmigaOS though... |
