Details About Genesi for the AmiWest 2003 : Comment 23 of 23 | ANN.lu |
Posted by corpse on 14-Jul-2003 07:32 GMT | In reply to Comment 22 (alan buxey): "ha! i laugh at your Debian and its feeble apt-get system ;-)"
Better then a piss weak RPM system :)
"seriously, its the best Linux tool, but pails into weakness
when put up against the *BSD ports system :-)"
Gentoo has ports ... But I have better things to do then spend days installing a base system :)
"ps its just
1>apt-update
2>apt-upgrade
"
Debian is really an explorers OS ... theres so much stuff that you never notice, like all the nice config tools in there, you just have to find out about them :)
"pps i've always wanted AmigaOS to have a decent package management tool..one
where you can just run the update...and it checks against the repository
and informs you if theres a new version etc.... this could actually be done
against AmiNET with a few extra tags on aminet files and another INDEX file"
They (Hyperion, the MorphOS peeps etc) could add some functionality to installer that registers software installs and their version in a flat file database (XML using the application.library in os4 maybe) and you could use a client to check your versions against the latest available and download newer installers if updates are available, Much like Redcarpet or VersionTracker. I'd hate to see a system that scans all your drives to find target applications and then screws them up by patching the wrong files etc tho. |
