Amiga Inc. is in danger of insolvency and the Amiga brand again faces uncertainty. : Comment 107 of 120 | ANN.lu |
Posted by EyeAm on 25-Sep-2003 02:30 GMT | If I were Amiga, I would not settle in any way, shape, or form (as long as it had contractual discretion regarding what devices its DE software resided on). I don't see where this Thendic/Genesi has any say-so in that matter; because, if this well-written overview is accurate (and I have no reason to think it isn't, it seems well-researched), then the 'device' known as Pegasos did not exist until well after the said agreement was signed by its makers and Amiga.
If I were Amiga, I would reinvigorate plans for an Amiga OS on x86/64 CPUs, and announce it far and wide. I would work with AMD, who recently announced their AMD Athlon64, to see what it would take to put or port the OS on their family of chips. I'd also urge those who could and would work on such a project, to contact Amiga. (re: AROS, and the Amithlon people).
If I were Amiga, I could only *hope* people like Carl Sassenrath (Amiga needs REBOL!), R.J. Mical and others would call to help with what *seems* to be badly-needed advice.
But...I'm not Amiga :-) And, my intuition still says this company isn't going anywhere but up. I think maybe we're in for a surprise no one can anticipate, which may turn things around.
This must be the lawsuit I wrote Bill McEwen about awhile back--the one where I told him it would be hard, but he'd get through it.
Personal wish-list of companies I'd like to see 'infuse' cash into Amiga, but without any heavy-handed control: IBM, SUN, and Gateway (I think still distribution through Gateway for Amiga-on-regular-desktop-computers is a prime choice).
Anyhoo...nice article.
