Pegasos-Italia : Comment 16 of 181 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Targhan on 01-Nov-2003 19:17 GMT | In reply to Comment 12 (Darren Eveland): @Darren
I suppose I should explain. Until such time that OS4 is actually available to the public, it is not an upgrade path. Now, that I had to say that, I should explain. At one time, many moons ago, I worked for AntiGravity. I saw the BoXeR. Given another two month, I think they might have pulled it off. It was in the pipeline, but as you see there is no BoXeR now. Another good analogy is Amithlon, which actually did make it to market. I even bought a copy. I like Amithlon, but the legal turmoil doomed the system. In fact, I would say that the legal turmoil started about the time that Amithlon was going to turn the corner. What would happen if Hyperion should go bankrupt? What if the Friedens have an automobile accident? As you see, until an item gets into the market, it is not an upgrade path. OS4 can be in the pipeline, but until it comes OUT of the pipeline, it is not an upgrade path at all.
I just know from experience that until it's available, it isn't an option. OS4 can go on tour, but the BoXeR was on tour as well. OS4 can be in beta-testing, but so was WebCruiser (an Amiga webbrowser from years back). Does anyone honestly believe that the people (different people, different projects) behind those projects *wanted* to not see those products hit the market? How can I, especially after my experience with something that came close, honestly consider something an alternative until it's done?
With the above said, I do not wish any ill will upon the OS4 team, Hyperion, or even Eyetech. I am just not going to call something an option until it *is* an option. |
