Pegasos-Italia : Comment 24 of 181 | ANN.lu |
Posted by bbrv on 01-Nov-2003 19:44 GMT | In reply to Comment 13 (Christophe Decanini): Hi Christophe, you know we think alot of you. DaveP, we think highly of you too, but here we have to disagree with you both.
Michele's use of the altered boing ball is not unethical, nor is a MorphOS butterfly being zapped in a microwave or snagged in an Amiga net. There is no trademark violation. It is not the trademark and it is on a site in Italy. Go try to fix that in a legal process...
Let's make something clear: the Pegasos has and does stand on its own merit. Michele is a Reseller and not part of Genesi corporately. We have no problem with his site, his "crass" t-shirt, or his occasional extraordinary enthusiasm. It is passions like his that kept this community alive for years and the reason why we have had a chance to make something out of it today.
And, while we are at it: we wish the best to OS4. They have a long way to go, BUT we really hope they get there. We know how hard it is to do what they are doing. If we could ever work through our differences we could actually like to help them. In fact, many say the Peagsos and MorphOS are actually helping them now because they have increased the level of activity around here. It all runs in the the same with the CPU family. Frankly, people like Michele and you are a big part of the reason there still IS a community. Christophe, you and Adam are of the same mold. Your French. DaveP your British. He is Italian. Cultural differences aside -- it is all the same community. When Hyperion are standing alone -- and they will be -- we will be right there if the are looking for support because they belong here too. We said that at AmiWest and we say it again now.
What to do now? Here are the facts: Amiga Inc. screwed this all up. Bill McEwen shot his mouth off too many times, broke too many promises and called people down with nothing to back it up. There is no judgment there. Finally, he picked a fight with the wrong people. Blindly, the ignorant took this word as gospel and this lead to more problems. Sure there were the WarpUp and PowerUp wars before and MorphOS has slogged its way for years through illegitimate criticisms. Here is another fact: MorphOS is becoming something very tangible and very successful. Wait to see what happens next! Seen any other non-unix OS get IBM validation lately? There are far too many talented people working on the advancement of the platform and it is going some where. If OS4 runs on the Pegasos we will apply for IBM validation for them too! As we said a year ago, and two years ago -- "let us see what happens."
The bottom line: if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. It easy to be nice to nice people, It is hard to be nice to jerks. We are all human. Often emotion rides amuck. Here on these forums tensions have run high. From our perspective, we ask no quarter and give no quarter. Bring the jerks on. They are the problem on these forums. The intellectually challenged anonymous whimps who hide behind their computers and cast stones. They don't do anything to contribute and they certainly do not buy computers. Often if they were exposed they would be ashamed and their childish behavior would cease. It is called accountability. We need some, but lets have some fun. We like Michele's t-shirt!
Back to the real world: how many AmigaOnes and Pegasos machines do you really think are out there? FACT: maybe 1000! That is all! There is alot of talk in this community and on these forums. That will not restore any real commercial credibility around here. We all need to get to work if we ever hope to reach a five digit number or more...
The *real* community is busy, getting applications ported, launching websites, breaking into new projects. It would be great if these forums could be constructive and collaborative. We like Michele's enthusiasm -- even if it has been turned on us from time to time.
The Pegasos intends to be an inclusive platform, NOT an exclusive on.
Morph is more than an OS -- it is a concept!
