OpenPCI 1.2 for AmigaOS3.x, Amithlon and MorphOS : Comment 6 of 38 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Sanjiv on 22-Nov-2003 19:14 GMT | In reply to Comment 4 (Bill Hoggett): <<I gather Elbox resorted to threats, resulting in the OpenPCI>>
<<author deciding he's better off without the hassle.>>
That's what killfiles are for, for ignoring people.
<<OpenPCI is a major threat to Elbox' core policy, which is to retain total>>
<<control over the drivers and hardware than can be used in conjunction with>>
<<the Mediator cards, as doing so allows them to charge extra for the hardware>>
<<and again for the drivers, with minimal investment in development.>>
That's Elbox's problem. The law does not protect that business model.
Given Elbox's history of using trojan data destroying code in their drivers, anything they threaten legally is safely ignored. Let them bleat like sheep.
Openpci on mediator would quickly become the defacto environment used on the mediator, because even us mediator users hate using elbox drivers. With all these extra eyeballs on the side of Openpci, it would benefit Openpci greatly to have us working on openpci drivers rather than using the Elbox trojans.
I'll probably sell my mediator in the spring anyway, because of the new anti-e3b trojan they are putting in their drivers, but if I had Openpci I might just keep it and further the Openpci cause.
