First impressions of the Amiga OS 4.0b : Comment 61 of 86 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Bill Borsari on 11-Feb-2004 20:41 GMT | In reply to Comment 53 (Anonymous): Olaf can correct me if I'm wrong but here is responce to the comment of how Roadshow is more "Amiga" like then other TCP/IP solutions.
Early versions of AmiTCP mirrored it's unix father in all aspects of configuration. On the Amiga that did not translate well so they had to create specific directories under AmiTCP: to make up for the difference.
Miami was nice because it simplified the whole thing in to a GUI driven application which presented all the unixisms in a visual form via the GUI, but ultimly it functioned as an Application to the Amiga.
Roadshow takes some of the unixisms but in other area's made major changes. Roadshow is not an application to the Amiga, there is no Roadshow icon on the workbench or anywhere. For the configuration files it follows the lines of other Amiga devices/services in "devs:" directory. Next to DOSDrivers and DataTypes is Networks and NetInterfaces and so on.
Read The Roadshow Cam article for a much better description |
