Emulation, by definition, is an attempt to copy the exact behaviour and performance of the original machine. So, running faster than the original machine is no longer emulation, abut something else, and often introduces problems running software designed and programmed with the real machine in mind. Yes, it's not good programming, but it's very common in older software, and the faster emulators get, the more broken many older programs become.
