Why do you think people provide Manuals for their editor ? VIM comes with a lot of Manuals, great Tutorial for beginners, a cool Mailinglist for people to help them and even printable books to help you solving the first steps. VI and VIM is being used by half of the open source world the other half uses emacs which isn't less cryptic. Not to mention that you only need 10 mins when you follow the tutorial to get into VIM itself. The normal user doesn't need many commands either probably 5% of 100% the other commands they need they will learn by increased usage of VIM.

If you have problems using VIM then that doesn't mean that others have the same problems with it han you initially had. It's just a matter of personal willingness to read Tutorials or spent some mins into it.
