Thendic-Amiga Court Case - Latest Motions : Comment 133 of 216 | ANN.lu |
Posted by gary_c on 05-Mar-2004 03:44 GMT | In reply to Comment 132 (Cary_G): Why don't you stop being a Genesi apologist now. The "promised kingdom" of becoming head of Genesi Japan will probably never materialise.
Thanks for your concern; it's touching. ;-) Actually I didn't even take up the offer to function as Pegasos reseller for Japan, due to other commitments, etc. So if you think I've been vocal in order to win some position, you're sadly mistaken.
Why don't people wake up? Do people have to get burned before they realise how naive they have been.
1) I take it you are also advising people to steer clear of Genesi's competitors around here, and their projects and products, since your standards of corporate conduct are so high. This would be appropriate, if you're as familiar with them as you are, or claim to be, with Genesi.
2) Whatever contribution I've made regarding Genesi's products is based on support, via the <a href="http://phinixi.com>Phoenix consortium</a>, for alternative computing systems. There isn't anything magical about Genesi itself, as far as I'm concerned, other than the fact that they've been willing to work with and contribute to Phoenix and its members instead of siphoning off resources wherever possible as Amiga, Inc. tried, and they've actually been able to get commercial products out the door to at least give some hope to developers. As long as they genuinely try to provide opportunities and make tangible progress in the market, it's obvious that it's in Phoenix's interests to play a part. That's basically why you see me posting about Genesi, or answering its critics. And, sometimes I just have a hard time letting forum posts go unanswered. ;-)
3) "People getting burned by Genesi" is obviously a very popular theme right now in some circles, as the taste of revenge is sweet even when it's largely based on self-delusion, but I think you'll find, if you check the facts, that actually Genesi has been much more positive than negative for the vast majority of people who've been involved. You have to give the people working for and with Genesi more credit; they are not naive (anyway, not by now ;-) ).
True, there is the instance of the ann.lu webmaster, who is claiming six weeks' wages, and another individual came forward who, if you read carefully, isn't owed for work done, but merely indicated the amount he would have been owed if he had actually been hired as planned. If there are other similar situations, I don't have any information about them.
Beyond that I think it's fair to say that people have not always been paid on time, or have not always received the full amount of what was due. I don't really have the details, so take this how you will. In any case, I believe a lot of critics are intentionally blowing things out of proportion to suit their own purposes. Where is the mass of disgruntled Genesi employees, current and former, coming forward with their stories, if what you say is true? I think those that have been putting up with lower or late pay are sticking with Genesi because fundamentally they want to be doing what they're doing and are willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt. And keep in mind that employee relations are a two-way street; sometimes people go or are let go because of unique circumstances that may have nothing to do with pay or benefits.
