MS is not quite "shifting" to PowerPC per se i.e. it’s more like following their old MS Windows NT plan a.k.a. "One Microsoft Way" (TM).

Note that MS use to have MS Windows OS products for PowerPC e.g. Windows CE 2.x, MS Windows NT 4.0 with a few of MS applications (e.g. Front Page) for PowerPC platform. PowerPC is just one of many processor platforms that MS is currently interested in i.e. the others are; MIPS, StrongARM/X-Scale, X86-32/IA-32, IA-64 and iAMD64/X86-64. Perhaps, Tao’s VP technology if one includes that particular virtual processor.
