Garry Hare Interview Now ONLINE : Comment 232 of 364 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Daniel Miller on 27-Mar-2004 00:46 GMT | A couple comments I would like to make:
All in all, I am happy that this new guy Hare and new outfit KMOS are in the picture now. Bill and Fleecy and the rest of the on-schedule-and-rockin' coupon and T-shirt gang wore out their welcome about three years ago. Hare has an impressive resume so maybe he will do something good with the OS project Hyperion has been working on.
I am a MOS fan, but before that I was an Amiga owner, and anyone who spends his time to try to keep that great old OS and its community alive is okay in my book, as long as they don't deceive and swindle people.
The account of Garry Hare and Mike Bouma and all the rest slaving away for 18 days to rebut Genesi's legal request for modification was interesting. In retrospect it kind of stupid, because the judge did not really buy into Genesi's request anyhow, and Amiga Inc. was late to the party again with their rebuttal too, but it was interesting. I'm glad someone cares enough to do all that.
Garry Hare seems to be under the impression that OS4 is cross-platform. Wherever does he get this notion from? Do Hyperion even say this? What the heck other platform do they plan to get OS4 running on, and what timeframe, 2018? The darn thing hasn't even been evaluated or proven at all on the PPC platform yet, and Garry Hare is all set to run it on other platforms. But fine, Garry, KMOS should go ahead and sink some money into that... more power to you!
Please don't tell me that Bill and Fleecy conned Garry and the KMOS investors into believing that OS4 is cross-platform!
Garry says Genesi has to get a license from Tao if they want Amiga Inc. to do their contractual port of Amiga DE to Pegasos, but there is nothing in the Thendic-Amiga Inc. contract that says Thendic must get a separate license from Tao. Amiga Inc. needs to sweat those details themselves or become liable for more damages and legal actions. And why is Hare commenting on this. He should mind his business. :D
This is really an interesting time for us old Amigans! However as everyone chooses the rival group they wish to support that they don't forget that Genesi is the company that has actually fielded a decent hardware product (the Pegasos 2) and software product (MorphOS 1.42). And like I said to someone at my Amiga user group meeting a few months ago: it is also okay if you support BOTH sides (or all sides if you count AROS and Amithlon). |
