I am currently being threatened by my former employer (they are "compelled [to] take action against [me]") for the way I am running ANN, and how this allegedly violates my employment contract with them ("interfere _in any manner_ with any business relationship between the Company and any of its customers or business partners"). This might entail drastic changes to the relative freedom of speech ANN has always allowed its visitors, or ANN might close down altogether. Updated 10:00 CET.

Legal threats? : Comment 1049 of 1057 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Don Cox on 11-Apr-2004 07:33 GMT | In reply to Comment 1048 (T_Bone): "Even though the signal is analog, it's transmitting digital information, and is displayed digitally "
Standard CRT output (VGA connector) is analog. The voltages going to each beam are no more in discrete codes than are the voltages on the audio output from Paula (which is also 8-bit).
There are also "digital" monitors, where the DAC is inside the monitor.
Flat panel displays, using switching transistors, could be described as "digital", but the intention is for the pixels to blur together in space and time to give a continuously variable image.
Attempts have been made to market "digital" loudspeakers, with hundreds or thousands of piezo electric units. These are comparable to LCD displays.
So is an ordinary printed half-tone photograph. |
