I am currently being threatened by my former employer (they are "compelled [to] take action against [me]") for the way I am running ANN, and how this allegedly violates my employment contract with them ("interfere _in any manner_ with any business relationship between the Company and any of its customers or business partners"). This might entail drastic changes to the relative freedom of speech ANN has always allowed its visitors, or ANN might close down altogether. Updated 10:00 CET.

Legal threats? : Comment 727 of 1057 | ANN.lu |
Posted by kalmar on 08-Apr-2004 13:24 GMT | In reply to Comment 712 (Anonymous): "You must be talking about the AmigaOne. Why would Eyetech lower the price? They have a total and complete monopoly by design on "new Amiga hardware". So as long as there are fools enough to pay the 300%(+++) markup, what is their motivation to drop the price? Expand the market? They don't care about expanding the market.
----
Flattering though it may be, I don't think Eyetech are in the market of providing a cost and performance competitive alternative desktop computing platform. Could you?
They are selling what is essentially a polished and cost-reduced development board. In the volumes they're selling them, I think the price is not too bad.
Their real goal is industrial or commercial systems, using the big board as a development tool until the micro board arrives. As a development tool, £500 or whatever they cost is peanuts, but the price *is* low so that means they don't want to just limit the market to a few developers, so that means they *are* interested in "expanding the market".
So I think you're professing to be too concerned about the one-off price. That's not what matters. |
