I am currently being threatened by my former employer (they are "compelled [to] take action against [me]") for the way I am running ANN, and how this allegedly violates my employment contract with them ("interfere _in any manner_ with any business relationship between the Company and any of its customers or business partners"). This might entail drastic changes to the relative freedom of speech ANN has always allowed its visitors, or ANN might close down altogether. Updated 10:00 CET.

Legal threats? : Comment 790 of 1057 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Darrin on 08-Apr-2004 18:13 GMT | In reply to Comment 775 (takemehomegrandma): Wow. That was a hell of a post!!! I have to say that as an attempt at damage control it was definately a valiant effort, and I wonder whether you wrote it entirely on your own or whether the lawyers assisted you in ensuring that a general vagueness and lack of responsibilty for Gensei's actions ran through the post. There are a number of items that I'd like to comment on, however this whole thread has worn me out. I will select one line however:
>This is not Genesi’s decision, Christian has now made the decision for them
>IMO.
So Christian volunteered to work for no pay and to provide an ad space for free? I strongly disagree here. I think the reason that this has become so public is because not that long ago Gensei publicly went on the offensive against another company that had "failed to pay its employees" and showed that they were so disgusted by the vile acts of this company in cheating its poor workers out of their wages that they graciously contacted them and supplied them with a lawyer(s) in order that the worker(s) could sue them for wages and damages. Another "unconnected" individual then took it onto himself to help the community keep up on the events by providing a website full of court documents and enough threads where we could all demand the hanging, drawing and quartering of the CEO involved.
I think that its anger against double standards such as this which have helped to bring this whole event into the open, and rightly so. A company that has lost of all its working capital and is unable to pay its employees is understandable. However, this isn't the situation here.
While I strongly sympathise with BBRV over the Air France incident (and I am sure that they had no involvement with the illegal activities of those responsible for it), I cannot see why so many people are trying to make Christian look bad for simply providing us with the information on his experiences with Gensei. |
