Images of OS4 Pre-release CD : Comment 83 of 85 | ANN.lu |
Posted by gary_c on 03-Jun-2004 03:18 GMT | In reply to Comment 74 (Don Cox): >Think about it, there are a few thousand Pegasos boards out there and more and more being sold everyday.
Are they being sold for use with an Amiga-style OS or a Unix-style OS? I suspect the latter. If you want to sell non-standard hardware, it will be easier to sell it with a well known OS.
In the case of the sale to FreeScale, for use with Linux mainly, I imagine. But there are also customers waiting for production to catch up to demand who want to run MorphOS mainly, so it's hard to generalize.
I doubt if many MorphOS users would pay 100 Euros or whatever for AOS4. (Nor would those who have AOS4 on their A1s pay for MorphOS.)
I think the primary beneficiaries of AOS4 on Pegasos wouldn't be MorphOS users (who basically already have what they want) but rather people who want to use AOS4 but would rather pay the price of a Pegasos (+ shrinkwrapped AOS4) than an AmigaOne. There seem to be quite a few people who want an A1 (to run AOS4) but can't afford it (or can't rationalize paying that much for that particular hardware) and are hoping the Micro A1 will be more reasonable if/when it arrives. Anyway, that's what I read often at other web sites. The Pegasos would sell well to these people, it seems to me, if it was available with AOS4 (assuming personality factors were overcome somehow).
