Yet Another Review of Pre-OS4 : Comment 25 of 35 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anders Ericsson on 15-Jun-2004 17:58 GMT | Hi my fellow Amigans ;)
I'm also a member of PUGS, and thought it was quite clear that this was never intended to be a full review but only a quick and dirty first impressions kind of thing. It was also written in the middle of the night so some things are bound to be unclear or even wrong.
I've heard too much "all MorphOS/AmigaOS4 users are evil". That's only a few loud mouths on each "side". Us normal users don't see it as two separate sides, only one community. Why shouldn't we? I'm a programmer and I'd be pretty stupid not to make programs that will work on A1 as well as Pegasos.
I wasn't at this particular meeting, tried OS4 for a couple of hours at a friends place and most of the first impressions were the same for us. IBrowse worked ok, but was a bit slow, which of course has to do with the demo only having 2 download channels. FTP transfer speeds were not too impressive either, so obviously some people have slow transfer rates while others don't. As is mentioned in the review, a few things that will make a big difference are still missing, like Petunia ans P96 ppc, but they are on the way soon, so I'm sure everything will be just fine.
I compare with both my Pegasos 2 G4 and my A4000 with PPC-233/060-50 and OS3.9 of course. But both of those have had a longer time to mature and get bugfixes, so I wouldn't take any review that comes out this early too seriously.
I haven't even checked ann.lu in ages because of the boring flame wars, but I think if more of us normal users that don't see it all as a war get heard, maybe the trolls would crawl back to their caves, or even better, become normal users too, that can discuss things in a well behaved manner.
Ahh, now I 'm just writing too much again...
Have a nice life everyone anyway! =) |
