Yet Another Review of Pre-OS4 : Comment 31 of 35 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Kjetil on 17-Jun-2004 11:33 GMT | In reply to Comment 30 (Seehund): I own an AmigaOne/OS40 pre dev, now.
I don’t se the point inn making a list like this, the pre developer version of OS40 is OLD by this date, I it do lack lots of stuff, a few GUI customization is missing, parallel serial, is missing, USB only supports keyboard and mouse (maybe it do support mass storage I have not tested it)
My first impression is that is where quite fast (gave me impression of speed like X-Windows), after installing it to HD, while the install CD is some what slower refresh I do not know way, I most agree that refresh is slow, and if you try to run UAE it will run slower the 1mhz Amiga500 due to some gfx refresh issues, (dragging the emulated screen down, increases UAE emulation by 100, this may have some thing to do whit poorly ported SDL, or poorly ported UAE)
I have tried to get a hold of Imake so I can try to compile it my self, I think it can be good exercise to get to know the SDK, I where thinking about making an aberration layer between UAE and AmigaOS40 so it can use native screens, and windows, this will convert UAE inn to a sandbox like Wine, and I can maybe remove AGA / ECS / OCS support, so it allows me to run things like Hippoplayer at good speed (Hippo player have some trouble whit AHI, and it generates hits at startup and shutdown on AmigaOS40) |
