Try only to realise the truth : Comment 308 of 335 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Amon_Re on 07-Jul-2004 13:08 GMT | In reply to Comment 303 (Bernie Meyer): You raise a fine point, remains to be seen how the implementation affects AOS4 as a whole, if it only affects the HAL, then i'd say it's a minor issue, if it affects the whole OS, then it might be a bigger problem.
We don't really know how it affects it tho, and probably never will, but we do know it (ArticiaS) evolved from the embedded market, or that's how i remember it anyway, and that might explain some of it's peculiarities.
Given what we know about it, it's hard to tell, we know it's an issue with the cache coherency, but what we don't know is what goes on during DMA inside the ArticiaS, and wether or not it is possible to change it's DMA handling, it has a floating buffer, and that might be part of the problem, and part of the solution might also be related, who knows, perhaps it's behaviour can be altered, perhaps not.
*IF* AOS4 works correctly with DMA on the ArticiaS, and *IF* the implementation has no adverse effects on AOS4, or it's API's, would you still call it a broken design? |
