Amigaworld.net is currently down due to hard drive failure.
Everything possible is being done to return the site to normal, however we are unable to give an ETA at this time.
In the meantime, the Amigaworld IRC network continues to function via the remaining US and European Amigaworld Servers
They are:-
UK.Amigaworld.Net
US2.Amigaworld.Net
NO.Amigaworld.Net
Updates will continue to be posted here as and when we know.

Amigaworld.net down : Comment 115 of 281 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anonymous on 03-Sep-2004 12:57 GMT | In reply to Comment 111 (Anonymous): Take a look at google. There are plenty of people that readily claim that at the same clockrate the FX and GX will outperform even the most modern G4's, given that altivec optimization is not a factor and the same clockrate is being applied.
Eyetechs original reasoning for not using the G4 was that they want to use the 7447A for heat reasons, but aren't able to get decent prices or availability on it, due to not being able to order in large enough quantities. When that is the case, you might see G4 cpu cards.
Not everyone agrees with this, including many amigaworld.net regulars who would have liked to see the G4 as an option or as a standard and openly exclaimed their opinons on the subject.
The only reason I responded to that post was because it put words into other peoples mouth that they never said, and took the whole discussion out of context. Btw, no one ever said that a 800Mhz FX was faster than a 1.1Ghz G4. No one said that the 800Mhz FX was always faster than a 800Mhz G4. No one argued that with altivec applications the G4 was faster. Automatically assuming that every amigaworld.net reader is an idiot, is as such, atypical of the kind of behaviour you see far too much on amiga related websites. |
