I know what you mean. I just bought myself a new laptop with a 17" widescreen display, full keyboard with numeric keypad, P4 2.8GHz, 512MB, 64MB nVida graphics, DVD+R/RW, Wireless networking, firewire, 4 x USB2, Smart Card Reader, etc for less than US$1400 and I've been bringing an extra one on my business trip to Egypt with me each time I go to sell to workmates (the low dollar makes these things VERY attractive to Brits and Aussies).
However, we're comparing PC to Amiga again. The fact is, if we all wanted cheap hardware and a mainstream OS then we wouldn't be posting here. Just like Mac users, we want to be "different" and these A1200-like cases are certainly eyecatching. Also, you can house a nice big & fast hard drive instead of a limited capacity/speed laptop drive... and work on it yourself. Last time I took a laptop apart I had about 30 tiny screws lying around everywhere and the whole thing was worse than a jigsaw puzzle of a "black cat in a dark room" to put back together... ;-) |
