An internal AmigaOS4 native release has been made of AWeb3.5 APL Beta. It doesn't work too well yet, but good speed has been reported.

It requires make 3.80, theoretically, which is the latest make release, however due to some bugs in that release, you need at least make 3.81, which is found in Make's CVS.

For your convenience, the binaries are put on AWeb's web page as well, and Andy compiled a version for AOS4 without too many problems.

The fancy stuff is what makes this system unique and useful at all. I don't think it's a wise idea to make it worse just because someone is too lazy to use the right tool for it :-) As said, download the binary from the AWeb page, or the sources from the Make CVS.
