The OpenDesktopWorkstation is now available for ordering directly through Freescale! It got the product number: PPC G4 0001.
The Open Desktop Workstation is configured based on selected OpenFirmware (IEEE1275) with Debian, Yellow Dog Linux and MorphOS (non-Unix OS based the Genesi Quark microkernel). An extensive application and tool suite is included with each operating system. The ODW can be used to natively build Linux kernels, root file systems, and applications. It includes attendant collateral documents and source code. The Linux kernel, root file system, and applications can also be loaded onto any target system that supports DINK32 or U-Boot. MorphOS is non-Unix based operating system and targeted at television based consumer electronics devices.

Freescale now also a reseller(!) of Pegasos Open Desktop Workstations : Comment 11 of 36 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anonymous on 13-Oct-2004 16:58 GMT | In reply to Comment 10 (Turambar): You are of course correct that Freescale is not in the reselling business, but are developers and manufacturers of CPU's etc. The title of the post is perhaps not 100% correct, only 90% or so. You can however order this PPCG40001 product THROUGH Freescale. I have no idea of how this is being (or will be when its finished?) processed internally, if it shipped from a stock at Freescale, or if the order is transferred to Genesi. Perhaps it is not 100% worked out right now but in the goings. It doesn't really matter. As you see a few posts down, in the Terrasoft thread, they have really embraced the Pegasos. According to BBRV, there is not a single Freescale office througout the world that doesn't have at least one Pegasos at site. They are promoting it in their contacts with CPU customers and other potential buyers. The Pegasos had a prominent position in the SNDF Europe event, with a lot of focus. Freescale are sponsoring the Pilot programmes with a lot of machines, of which we just have seen the first three or so taking off. A lot more is coming. They are sponsoring some 100 developers with complete Open Desktop Workstations. Put all this together, and it will certainly count for something, don't you agree?
