Albeit it is lacking several of its key features, I decided to put ANN v2 online today. Feel free to take a look around, but beware that this is a pre-release. In other words, this is beta software. It may still contain a few bugs, provide links that either lead nowhere or that are out-of-date, etc.

New features that are already available in this pre-relase:

  • Five new article formats (News, Files, Web, Motd, Rant). You should discover them throughout the next few days. Possibility to see all five categories, or just a selection of them.
  • New "range" system that no longer relies on the date but on the number of articles
Features that are planned, but which are not ready right now:
  • Database system for easy access to the file and website databases (Freshmeat and AWD-like behaviour)
  • Revised comment system that allows truly threaded (ie. indented) comments
  • and much, much more :)

In reply to Comment 1 (Robert Simmonds):
It may take some time before "guests" can post news items again. Basically, the
submit script is working already, but there is no code to differenciate between
admin(s) and normal users, ie. everybody could be posting stuff that would
immediately appear on the main page. But I'm working as fast as I can. :)

Top work.

What happened to the selection for 3 or 7 days worth of news?
Have you fixed the end of month problem yet (past 7 days has no news an hour into the new month)?
Looks like you fixed the mime setttings on the server, AWeb 3.3 no longer asks me if I want to save the main page file. And I see the troublesome (at 640 screenwidth) banner is now gone from the top of the first column.

Oops, I see I still have trouble with text/html .cgi on your site in AWeb, even after adding the extension to the settings. Waiting for a reply from AWebML about this

It's gone, and has been replacement by the much more convenient "view XX last
articles", which you can see and I can test as soon as there are more than ten
news items in the new format.

Since it has become obsolete now, there was no need to fix it. :)
