Cool! Now if only I had the hardware to run it on. Well, I'm half way there...

If it crashes, the author said to use :
stack 500000
GLQuakeWOS >nil:
the arg -width allows to change the width of the screen
Good luck !

...and how about a 68k Warp3D version?

I find it rather slow but it's the limitations of Quake and the Permedia 2...

Err...actually, I get 17fps on timedemo1 in 640*480, that is far less than I had expected, just about playable.... =(

Which PPC's are you running it on?

It's likely the thing is not fully optimised yet.
However, all of you who believed all the crap Phase 5 was spewing about the Permedia 2: think again.
It's slower than a Voodoo 1 and not fully OpenGL compliant.
We have found with respect to Heretic 2 that on a Cyberstorm PPC/200 the limiting factor is the fillrate of the Permedia 2, not the CPU.
In essence: the CPU has time to spare, the Permedia 2 is doing all it can.
For an unknown reason the BVision boards are even slower than the Cvision boards.
In short: get the Voodoo add-on for the PIV.

In reply to Comment 8 (Ben Hermans/Hyperion):
I'd rather an Amijoecard with its 3D gfx board :)
The cost of a Picasso IV (hard to find moreover) and the Paraglide add-on is too expensive. Moreover for A1200 owners you have to add the Zorro III bus connector...
All with me : Metabox ! Metabox ! Metabox !

12.5 fps CV3D + CSPPC233 + P96 v2.0 + W3D v3.0 (sigh!)

I have just downloaded it. I will play it soon.
Well, if the Permedia 2 is too slow then DCE should get moving and build the cards with the Permedia 3.
I also wonder why they want to use the Permedia 3? Is it easier for them to build? Cheaper? I would suggest the NVidia Riva TNT 2 Vanta. This chip uses 16 MB of memory and is a cut down version of the TNT 2. The size of these cards for the PC aren't much larger then the BVision.

I don't have a PPC board for my 3000 or 1200 (my 3000 needs some new parts anyhoo) yet, maybe metabox can help?
But I get 65 fps on my K6-2 450/TNT 640x480x16 with 16 megs (its a Creative Labs TNT AGP card). I have a Voodoo 2/12 meg as well and it gets around 129 FPS with the 3DNOW minigl driver.
I have a friend that has a PerMedia 2 AGP board as well - it does go faster then 16 fps in GL Quake, but the one thing I noticed is that it looks uglier, and the dithering looks nastier. Not to mention (not that this is a problem yet) it can't do coloured lighting in Quake 2.
I believe that the whole opengl issue (weather a chip is opengl compliant or not...) is a software issue not a hardware issue.

CV3D and 12.5 fps ?!?!?! I would have thought it would be more like 1.25 fps :)

In reply to Comment 11 (Remco Komduur):
The problem is DCE bought a stock of Permedia 2 and must build cards with them.
Then after this stock they may buy some Permedia 3 for a good reason : it's pin compatible with the Permedia 2.
Why not TNT 2 or GeForce ? Because it would mean a total redesign of the board and I'm not sure that's Thomas Dellert want on a short term.
First step is to rebuilt Pahse 5 products adn sell them.
Second step is to evualuate the market for a new generation of boards.
And don't forget Met@box...

Hi!
Not really a software issue... the Permedia 2 definitely lacks some important
blending modes... you can maybe "sort of" emulate some of this stuff, but it
won't look as good as in hardware...
And of course there is the speed issue... software which does a lot of texture uploads relies on a fast Bus System. What the P5 Board has is a 25 MHz clocked
Bus...
Okay, still, in 400x300 and higher resolutions it is faster than the
software renderer... and other software which does not texture-upload
such often is even MUCH faster in Lowres, but
well, the problem exists... especially for programs where the GL
Version is sort of a Hack added later to the Engine (Read: "Quake 1")
But even these "software issues" will run much faster on a decent
3D Board...
It is a hardware issue.

Remember me, from comment 11.
Well, I have played it and I can't complain. For a beta version it runs great. I am now able to play Quake in 640 X 480 pretty smooth. There are parts in the game where Quake runs fast. Some parts where the CPU has more to do run slower. It has probably something to do with the fact that it's beta and not fully Amiga specific yet. But hey, a working GLQuake after only 2 months is great. These people really know what they are doing. And it will only get better!!!!
Look at Descent for Warp3D. That game runs fast and smooth even in 800 X 600 and I only have 175 MHz PPC with BVision.
I realy do believe that if the kernel of the PPC cards would be changed for WarpOS, speeds would be higher. Maybe know that DCE are the new owners, Ralph Schmidt and Haage & Partner can go sit around a table and create the best of both worlds.
And remember. The creators together with Hyperion are breaking new grounds here for the Amiga. It may take a little while before top speeds are reached.
