[Motd] ANN v2 pre-release 8 | ANN.lu |

I removed the popup window again due to the negative visitor feedback and the comparatively low income. While it would effectively have doubled my income per day, it apparently also degraded the quality of the site for many people, so I dropped it.
Other changes in pre-release 8 include a few cosmetic changes in the info section and on all boxes. I'm now using 1 pixel wide borders, a smaller title font and a smaller info bar.
As always, please use the comments link (on the right) to let me know what you think.

other Amiga browsers... :/ |

The cosmetic changes are good, except the smaller font in the titlebar. I liked it better when it was a tad larger, but that's my personal opinion, and it's not something that will change my view on ann overall. You do a fab job:) |

Posted by the man in the shadows on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | Since noone else bothered to comment on anything but the banner... what happened to the gradient fills? I thought those were just totally cool to look at.
I do like the smaller font as well as the thinner borders. What would be interesting though is something where you just had the top bar across the top section and remove the other parts of the table borders. I think that it would give it a much more professional feel. Also if you limited the size of the title section to just say width="350", that would also make a pretty interesting feel. Round off the corners on the top to make them look like file tabs and viola... you have new look, new feel, and not much coding in order to do that really... Just a thought.
from a fellow coder ;) |

Posted by Linus McCabe on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | yeah, popup suck, but i really didnt mind if ANN would have them for a short while. I guess, if people had clicked your banners enough in the first place you would never have made the move, so I just hope that ppl will be nice and click em now.

Posted by Jim McFarland on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | Thanks for losing the pop up window. I was trying to figure what was going on because with IBrowse 2.1 and Miami, most of the time it was there, but it was empty. While advertising can be overwhelming at times, what appears to be a glitch is very irratating.
Hopefully an effort will be made to use on an Amiga site, features supported by all current Amiga browsers. |

Posted by MashMan on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | I like the smaller-ness, but the smaller title bar on each section plus the
bold makes the text very hard to see, could you either make it a bit bigger or
remove the bold tag please? |

Posted by Bob C on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | If the popup only came up once (and was smaller) it would not have been that bad, but every time the "back' button was selected the popup would appear - most annoying!
You do wonderful work here and it would very nice if your income could increase so I would be willing to deal with a banner or popup done properly.

Posted by RoboChook on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | You know, I really like this site a lot, and I would like to see it thrive.
I also think Christian deserves to be rewarded for his rather huge commitment and efforts toward the Amiga community.
I just can't believe so many of you got wound up about a frickin' popup window.
Shame on you all!
Don't you people think that he deserves some sort of remuneration for all the time he spends working on this site?
How many other sites can you think of that have such a remarkable layout and usefulness? Particularly in the Amiga scene?
Christian, I salute thee.
As for all you whiners, well, I'd better not say what I think. |

Posted by Mike Pindzola on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | I think you, CK, are doing a great job/service for us in the Amiga community.
Keep up the good work.
As far as the pop-up affair: Come on guys it wasn't that bad! Mr. Kemp does
get hungry once in a while- let him generate some income as it appears that it
is not that easy to. |

Posted by Dave Fisher on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | Just a small note regarding the title bars, I too find it a little cluttered
being bold and now smaller. Personally speaking, I think the bold is good as
it makes the titles stand out, so I'd vote for the font size to go back up
one :)
Apart from that, keep up the excellent work CK! |

Posted by Hagge on 23-Feb-2000 23:00 GMT | There are a few "sent-me-email-and-then-pay-me-per-message" and "surf-a-while-and-get-paid" pages on the Internet.
Most of them give you more money if you let other people sign up "under" you. So why just become a member on one of these pages, let everyone know there to sign up under you, and then get paid for that. Get paid for surfing is less irritating then pop-up windows which is just plain evil... yeah, like m$ you know =)
Or please let us know any other way to help you! |

then why not keep a link to the page still, so that those of us that want to can |
