Ben Yoris writes: Matrox will have G400 3D Linux drivers written for this summer, in open source. Support will include all 2D and 3D functions for G200 and G400 3D boards. Let's hope it's possible to write Amiga drivers, if PCI or AGP hardware is released until this summer... More details here.

OO! Cool! Matrox G400 has a dual monitor output for dual video display! I wonder if this will even be possible with the software in CGX or P96...

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but isnt the G400 an AGP graphics card?
Now, unless something has changed radically in the lest few days, Amiga doesnt have AGP support, so what would be the point in writing drivers for them for amiga, if no current amiga cant actually have the cards plugged in?

Sorry, I didnt read it properly =)
anyway, the likelyhood of AGP on Classic amigas is very very slim. 2x AGP requires a 66mhz bus, and has bandwidth of over 500MB/s. much more than the Amiga mobo can handle. Secondly, Intel keep AGP very exclusive, so i doubt whether any amiga companies can afford to licence AGP from them.
But PCI looks hopeful =)
Once again, appologies for not reading the piece properly =)

It doesn't counts as much, as (in better solutions) the GFX card sits on the turbo-card's local bus. BTW, I wonder how fast will be the aj1200's PCI-bus...
BTW2, there is cool PCI (i.e. not AGP) boards around...

Yeah, some PCI gfx cards are good. however, they are getting rather rare nowadays. AGP is taking over a lot, due to the huge amounts of bandwidth available in AGP x2 and x4. 3DFX still make their Voodoo3's in PCI version (I have one here) and if i remember correctly, they have linux drivers out too. Not sure whether they are open source, but i would certainly assume so. I quite fancy a BoXeR with a Voodoo3 3500 PCI slotted in it!

Yes, but in the mean time, while everyone is saving up doe to "potentially" upgrade there old Amiga hardware to handle such a card, I believe Tao had something called Elate that supports current hardware that DOES have AGP and PCI.
Granted, I know PC, MAC, Server hardware, ect. Are not actual Amigas, but then again, how many actually Amigas still exist, and how available and inexpensive are they, and on top of that, how much is it going to run me againt o purchase a G4 upgrade for it, how much do I have to spend on the must up to date chip sets, how much are these adapter cards going to run me, and how much is it going to cost me to purchase a pre-designed, easy to work with, tower casing for all this hardware. Oh, and on top of that, how many people out there are really that gung ho about electronics, to go to this degree!?!? I am, and a few of you are, but the general pbulic!?!? Come on guys, I used to work as a technical support at an ISP, and to tell the Truth, a large percent of those people did not know how to read, or did not have the attention span, or interest to do so, and make any sence of it all.
My final verdict (once again), why worry about PCI, or AGP, we already got them, now we just wait on Elate? I hope Tao is pulling out of there ass what I hear they are!
