Ah yes... hence the reason why I won't bother purchasing the BoXeR. When I can get one completely bare without the case, then I might consider.

The BoXeR sounds nice but until it ships, it's just vaporware.
Too bad that it only offers a 2 zorro slot option.

If, and I say if, the Boxer does appear in its stated glory,
it would be a very good replacement for old Amigas which are
going bad...I mean, my A3000 was bought in 1991....it also
sounds like it could be a good platform to add a G3/G4/G5
board....I'm sure that at first one will not be able to get
a bare board, but after a while, if they sell enough bigboxes
they will sell bare boards, especially to OEM type people...it
would be a good device for kiosk boxes...no?
Here's hoping it actually does show up!

The BoXeR isn't a scam, and although its not yet coming, it is
breathing hard. How do I know? I work for Antigravity, and I can say
they are sincere and working very hard to get it out, at a great
personal cost I might add. If you want to blame someone for its late
release, blame Petro, I hate to say it, but its largely due to the
promises his mouth made that his ass couldn't keep up with, that the
BoXeR didn't have the chips it needed to ship with the first design,
and so it took over a year to redesign the board. Mick didn't even
have schematics from Amiga to go on, he had to do the whole thing from
scratch. As for only having two Zorro slots, well, what is PCI maybe
five, six times faster? and cards are what, a fifth or sixth the
cost? I like Zorro alot, its great in my A3KT but I'd like a cheap
fast 3D card to suppliment the advanced video abilities of the BoXeR.
And I don't think anyone is up for the challenge of programming a new
logic chip to fix the speed limitations of the current Buster chip.
I can plug my PicassoIV into one of the slots, my Emplant into the
other, and the remainder of my expansion needs will be met cheaply and
quickly with the PCI part. And once again, the fastest Mac you can
buy will be an Amiga..

Why is it a scam? As far as I am aware no-one has made any profit put of it. I doubt many people will have pre-ordered yet - and even if they had both Blittersoft and Anti-Gravity are well respected companies with no intention of conning anyone.

I agree. I am perfectly capable of building my own system. This is to keep a tight grip on what market they have left. And I'm not faulting them for that. It has been a long time since they have had viable systems to sell. Hopefully, they will sell the boards to end users eventually. But from my point of view, why should I buy the whole system from them, when I don't need the whole thing. I already have most everything to construct an ATX/PCI/Boxer based Amiga. All I need is the motherboard. For that reason, my next Amiga will likely be the 400Mhz Intel machine I built, running Amiga/Elate with classic emulation.

First of all, should they be working on a computer for the Next Generation? Why make more clones of the classic if the new ones will be compatible?
And let's face it- This poor machine has no luck and I SINCERELY doubt that they will ever be released (it's a shame because it seemed so nice, but now we don't need it anymore). My advice is not to give them any money before you actually see a product, because you'll never see your money again...

As worldwide distributors of BoXeR, I can inform you that no decision has been taken on the sale of individual BoXeR motherboards.
Whoever said they would not be sold on their own at Anti-Gravity is currently incorrect.

Well, Sam, perhaps few folks have pre-ordered, but I am amoung the unfortunate few idiots who did so. Last May, in fact, so you can imagine how frosted I am at the continual announcements of delays, punctuating otherwise stony silence from the companies involved (Blittersoft, Access, Anti Gravity). Maybe I was fool enough to believe before, but no longer. Given the 2-3 month testing phase Access has announced, the 4-6 week production phase Paul LeSurf mentioned last November at the Cologne computer show IRC conference, AND who knows how long at Anti Gravity to assemble, test and ship machines, the Boxer at best could come out no earlier than May or June. IF there are no significant problems in any stage or Mick suddenly decides to redesign the thing again. I think it's more reasonable to assume we won't see product till August, or maybe even September. By that time, who knows what could be happening? Amiga Inc. could have their own box rolling out, something that might totally put the Boxer to shame.
ISA or no, MMC or no, we needed the Boxer LAST year, not at some point yet to be determined this year. IF it's ever released, it may function as a good transition machine for those who can wait for it. Last year, it could have been important in sustaining the market, especially in light of Gateway crapping out on us. As for myself, unless I can think of one hell of a good reason not to over the weekend, I'm gonna start trying to get my cash back from Anti Gravity and start serious shopping for a Windoze box. It's not a pretty thing, but it's cost-effective, can run all the best software ('cept the OS, natch!), and I can actually get a firm delivery date!

Arena. In fact its the only reason to buy into M$ scam for me. (No,
I haven't actually done it) but you aren't an idiot to order a BoXeR.
It will be alot more than an A4000 with PCI slots,a LOT more. If you
can be patient, then that patience will be richly rewarded. In the
meantime, get one of those free PC's with the $400 internet signup
fee, at least you can use the internet signup with your new BoXeR
board. And you'll get a taste of how much 'better' the PC market
realy is....

The "free" PCs are low-power affairs paid for with constant advertising and intrusive marketing, and the ISP rebates actually cost you almost $400 due to the higher monthly rates ($21.95 vs. $19.95 in most cases). You don't need to sell me on the Boxer's specs. An all-new, high-speed design with modern expansion slots, high-speed serial and parallel ports with easy PPC expansion? It's specifications like those that had me waiting for over two years for the thing to materialize, and dissuaded me from picking up a used A4000 or built-up A1200. What a great idea to bypass these elderly and highly strung out systems! Heck, even seemed cheaper and I loved the iMac-alike CPU cases Anti Gravity trotted out late last year.
