Gateway inside information or just a reporter stuck in a time loop? Popular Science reports the Amiga computer is set to make a comeback thanks to Gateway’s plan to introduce its Amiga Multimedia Convergence Computer. The article is indeed dated "February 2000", but the information contained seems to be many, many months old and long obsolete. Any comments?

I saw that as well. I don't know what the deal was with that article.
At first I was thinking... maybe gateway fooled us as well as the entire world about their outragous withdraw on amiga.
than I thought......nah.... the article is just to damn old.
most likely.

Obviously this article came out 2 months too early.
It must have been meant for April 1st.

Well, it's better than being studiously ignored by them, which is what usually happens.
It's nothing new-they preview LOTS of things that never come out-like Moller's flying car-which pisses me off. It's the 21st Century, and I WANT MY FLYING CAR, DAMN IT!! They've only promised it for what, 50 years now?

Kinda does make you wonder about the accuracy on different types
of products that PopSci reports on.....they way they describe it, it had some features
missing, plus the report says it would have the Transmeta chip in it.
So dust off your hot/cold autoadjusting sweater, get in your
90 mpg SUV, drive to the computerized highway, talk on your
wristwash 2 way TV/stereo/Cray and get moving!!! too bad for
PopSci. Has anyone pointed out to them their mistake on the Amiga
report????

In reply to Comment 4 (Dave Leeds):
Yeah... they don't ignore us, they just get all their facts wrong... proving their total ignorance :-) Then, of course, there is the possibility that... ohhh never mind, it's too early in the morning for a new conspiracy theory!

In reply to Comment 5 (AGregory):
If someone does, I hope they point out how REALLY OLD the news is and mentions at least the December sale to Bill and Fleecy.

Perhaps what happened was they gatheres the info ages ago, droppes it when Gateway pulled the plug,
then heard about the buyout and "assumed" they would be continuing wth the same project.
Since they probably have a 60 day lead time for articles, they may have wanted to report
on what happened but didn't have time to verify the new owners intents.

Hi, everyone- I just finished yelling at the Popular Science people online and told them to strip that bogus story down right away because it was totally bogus. I also filled them in on what REALLY happened, so hopefully they'll listen...
Amigans never say "DIE"!

Well, that certainly looks as if someone is just a
little behind on technilogical times there.

Was this printed in the mag? One thang to remember is that there is a lot of lead time for articles in most big popular mags. Most info will be anywhere from 1 to 4 months behind real time. AIR the lag time for articles in Confuser Shocker (Computer Shopper, USA) is 3 months.
If it was their web site then I can think of no excuse.

Yeah, lead time on a hack rag like PS is about 3 months.
Waht's funny is one of the ATI centric fanboy sites picked this up and posted it. Pretty funny.

1. Magazines are commonly dated one or more months in the future from their actual publication date. As an example, it's February 26th, and in today's and yesterday's mail I got several magazines dated March (including a PopSci, with a flying car on the cover). This is so they'll stick around on the newsstands longer.

2. In addition, lead times of several months are not at all uncommon. And don't forget time for various incarnations of Amiga to write and ship out press releases!

Counting back, by the time they got it, it was indeed somewhat old news, but not yet obsolete news, I'd believe.

On the other hand, the latest issue of Wired has an article on retrocomputing, which of course includes mention of the Amiga - and does mention that the current owners are Amino.
