Gateway inside information or just a reporter stuck in a time loop? Popular Science reports the Amiga computer is set to make a comeback thanks to Gateway’s plan to introduce its Amiga Multimedia Convergence Computer. The article is indeed dated "February 2000", but the information contained seems to be many, many months old and long obsolete. Any comments?

At first I was thinking... maybe gateway fooled us as well as the entire world about their outragous withdraw on amiga.
than I thought......nah.... the article is just to damn old.

It's nothing new-they preview LOTS of things that never come out-like Moller's flying car-which pisses me off. It's the 21st Century, and I WANT MY FLYING CAR, DAMN IT!! They've only promised it for what, 50 years now? |

of products that PopSci reports on.....they way they describe it, it had some features
missing,plus the report says it would have the Transmeta chip in it.
So dust off your hot/cold autoadjusting sweater, get in your
90 mpg SUV, drive to the computerized highway, talk on your
wristwash 2 way TV/stereo/Cray and get moving!!! too bad for
PopSci. Has anyone pointed out to them their mistake on the Amiga
report???? |

then heard about the buyout and "assumed" they would be continuing wth the same project.
Since they probably have a 60 day lead time for articles, they may have wanted to report
on what happened but didn't have time to verify the new owners intents. |

Most info will be anywhere from 1 to 4 months behind real time. AIR the lag time for articles in Confuser Shocker (Computer Shopper, USA) is 3 months.
If it was their web site then I can think of no excuse.

As an example, it's February 26th, and in today's and yesterday's mail I got several magazines dated March (including a PopSci, with a flying car on the cover). This is so they'll stick around on the newsstands longer.
2. In addition, lead times of several months are not at all uncommon. And don't forget time for various incarnations of Amiga to write and ship out press releases!
Counting back, by the time they got it, it was indeed somewhat old news, but not yet obsolete news, I'd believe.
On the other hand, the latest issue of Wired has an article on retrocomputing, which of course includes mention of the Amiga - and does mention that the current owners are Amino.
