Benjamin Yoris forwarded a mail he received from Metabox AG. When asked whether they intend to take user's requests in consideration (US, SCSI, etc...), they answered: Sure.. On the subject of G4 and GFX, they wrote: The circuitry is already prepared for G4 and I guess we will announce them very soon when we have parts for production. GFX has a very limited choice because of the behavior of most chip manufacturers and mechanical requirements. But this is solved either.

"This is solved either"? What does it mean?

I suppose they managed to solve the problem.

Last time I looked at the Metabox site they stated that the AmiJoe was coming equipped with USB and a (mini?) PCI slot. If this is still the case then I'm quite sure that someone will give us some drives to run a cheap PeeCee Voodoo X card off it sometime soon. I hope.

In reply to Comment 4 (Darrin Lanchbury):
I do hope so for everybody out here, but the problem, IMO, is that Amijoe cards themselves are terribly expensive. I know about costs concerning research, development and so on (I earn my living programming Wintel and Linux machines) but still it seems to me just too much money to spend for an accelerator board; even because what is one supposed to do when the "big dongle" (i.e. your standard Amiga) the board connects to fails? Please beware: it's not my intention to criticize in general terms HW/SW developers still working on the Amiga. The user base has shrunk terribly in the last years and I'm grateful for their efforts to keep our platform alive, but still I have some doubts...
All the best to everybody

Their prices are cheap, when compared to the 68K cards out there.

True, but should the boxer come to light, we can by a new dongle called BOXER, should it ever come to past(-;

Greetings
I wouldn't worry about the availability of new 'big dongles' in the
shape of big box Amiga 3/4k machines. There are a few new 4kTowers
coming out, and there seems to be no shortage of A3000's around on the
used market. If the clock battery is replaced then the 3000 is a very
reliable box, so is the 4000. I think the Amiga market is now such
that most if not all of the short lived machines have been weeded out.
In other words, if it works now, it will most likely continue to
work. My A3000 has already outlived several newer PeeCee mobo's...

In reply to Comment 9 (Bolton Peck):
That is very true, my a4k is from 92, and I have no problem with it.
And an other thing, the AmiJoe is rather cheap, compared to other 68k acc. boards, and much cheaper than p5 ppc cards..

Hey, my A4000 is more than 10 years old! Nowadays equipped with CSPPC604e/233+060/50+CVPPC it can still outperform the PII/450 standing next to it!
And my opinion on the AmiJOE is that it's CHEAP! I payed 12000SEK for my CSPPC (with 128Mb RAM), It seems I'll get an AmiJOE for about half that price!
Go Metabox!
=)))

In reply to Comment 11 (digit):
There is no way your A4k is 10 years old as they first came out in 1992...
On the other hand my old A500v1.2 is 13 years old and works perfectly.
