While we don't have official confirmation of this, there are rumours that Haage and Partner may not develop AmigaOS for the POP/PPC afterall. These plans were, afterall, put together at a time when there was no communication with Amiga Inc, and H&P had to essentially create their own migration path, choosing POP as a likely candidate for a Next Generation Amiga system.
Now that the official strategy of Amiga is to migrate to the Tao "platform", it's likely (according to our sources) that this is where a significant amount of H&P's energy will of course be focused from now - the transition strategy - and this raises legitimate questions as to whether H&P are still interested in developing a PowerPC Open Platform (POP) port of AmigaOS, or whether it would be consistent with their strategic relationship with Amiga Inc.
I wanted to state for the record that everyone at the Open Amiga Foundation acknowledges the strong strength of feeling within the Amiga community on this matter. Our members and the Amiga community have consistently told us, in poll after poll, the fact they want an AmigaOS port for the POP/PowerPC - and so for our part, we remain fully committed to helping develop and fund a PowerPC/POP port of AmigaOS/AROS. We are currently in the process of seeking contributions from sympathetic companies. If you work for a company that may be interested in sponsoring our work (especially if you have something to gain from a PowerPC port of AmigaOS or the creation of PPC hardware drivers etc), please ask them to get into contact with us by e-mailing president@amigakernel.org. We'd very much like to hear from you.
Best regards,

Well, I for one are interrested in buying a POP board and Amiga OS 4. The Amiga OS has still a lot of life left in it. It just needs a better processor and hardware support. And offcourse redevelopment.
So the POP board would be great. For video card support they only have to create standard video drivers for the NVidia chipsets, just like NVidia itself does, and all brands of video cards with a Riva TNT, TNT 2 and TNT 2 Vanta chipset will work.
At this moment hardware support is terrible. I have ordered a Delfine1200 more than 7 months ago and still nothing. And it is not this sound card either.
Suddenly we are blessed with 3 sound cards for the Amiga 1200. But you can't get them anywhere fast. Rediculous.

In reply to Comment 1 (Steve Crietzman):
Hi!
Please, *where* do you take this from ?
Please don't start any rumours !!! Thanks.
I personally think it is VERY likely that the future
Amiga hardware will be POP and in the (okay, not very much
saying... :( ) announcement it was said (at least THIS
was said...) that H&P will work on the backward compatibility.
Well, this is what we want, right ?
I too would appreciate a more detailed announcement from
H&P/Amiga, true. But we have to give these people some
more time...

In reply to Comment 4 (Steffen Haeuser):
I'm afraid I can't say who told me this :(
But I should point out that I am not saying whether this is true - I just wanted people to know that *if* this is true, then Open Amiga Foundation will fill any gap this creates for a POP/PPC port of AmigaOS/AROS. Either way, Open Amiga is committed to the POP/PPC, and this is what I was mainly trying to say..
Hopefully I misunderstood, and H&P will take the AmigaOS 3.x/4.x to the POP platform.
Best regards,
Steve.

Hello,
It would be great if the Amiga OS could run on POP and now that TAO with it's Elate OS are involved, i see no reason what so ever that it could not be possible to run on Intel,POP, ARM etc, well, it could even run on top of windows and other OS's. Isn't that the really great thing about the Elate system (except that it supports multi processor systems, realtime behaviour, is based on a micro kernel small, fast etc. . . )??
