Daniel Orth writes: amiga.topcool.de interviewed the Vice-President of Amiga, Petro Tyschtschenko in german. He told us for example that 12800 AmigaOS3.5 were sold. My quick summary in English can be found below. AmigaOS 3.5 sales are diminishing since January 2000. Overall, 12.800 copies have been sold. Right now, about 400-600 copies are sold each month. But I [PT] never planned anything different. It was supposed to be a sign from Amiga to the community, to make the time until Jim Collas' new product seem shorter.

On 14.1, Markus Grohmann started working for Amiga in Braunschweig as complementary logistics manager [if that's the right expression]. Petro also has a new assistant, Barbara Nietzsche.

There are about 20.000 Amiga users in Germany, although that number is decreasing fast. All over the world, there are 80-100.000 users. Only new products and innovations can keep the current users and make new ones.

[..] The investors behind Amiga are prepared to invest a lot of money. [..]

Petro's family life is running on low priority. Most user meetings are on weekends. Since 19th February, Petro has a visitor from India, his main distributor in New Delhi is in Langen (Germany) right now. He has many sales projects and is travelling a lot. Nevertheless, he still has a lot of fun. [..]

So far for my quick translation. I'm sure somebody will post a better version some place, but at least this one shouldn't have most of the nonsense your typical Babelfish translation has

I remember that dreadful day when I finally broke down and bought a PC. My main
reason for the purchase was that Petro refused to lower the price of an A4000
to be competative with PC's. At the time a 30mhz '040 amiga with a one gig hard
drive was going for $2700 USD. Almost twice the cost of a brand new PC with
100mhz 486 with a 1 gig hard drive. As much as I like to pay for quality, I hate
to pay through the nose for it.
On another topic, what is going to be the next Amiga? At first I thought it was
going to be the A/Box. This idea was put on hold because of the Amiga God
machine with MMC that never saw the light of day. So far it looks like the Boxer
may be the next Amiga. I'll have to take a look at it again and give it more
thought before I fork out any cash. Later...

Youre right that its available again soon, but that won't help the persons who could not afford it in the first place!
I know DCE has to earn a living, and it is selling in such low numbers that production is very expensive.
But I (and many others)can not afford to pay more for a PPC & GFX card than an entire PC system (with a twice as fast spec.
), I would love to buy it but I simply can't afford it.
As many others I have to wait for the new Amiga (from Amiga Corp.)and hope it is as good as they claim it will be.
I know it is killing the few Amiga companys left but I will not invest in any software for my current Amiga (1200t + 030 acc.), which I hardly ever uses because of the lack of a gfx card.
I hope the companies will get lots of help from Amiga Corp. to convert their software to the new platform. When they do I will buy it again.

In reply to Comment 1 (Roberto C.):
:: 2.Petro said that the number of Amiga users is only 100.000 in the world.
He should know better ... but there should be more IMHO.
I don't know how these figures are estimated ?
100.000 ? In Germany alone - maybe
I believe 9 out of 10 big-box Amiga users still have/use their Amigas.
So , let me count ... how many A2000/A3000/A4000 have been manufactured ? ... hmmm ...
:: But there are many many people in the world that don't have an Amiga
:: computer but are Amiga fans like me.
How true. But you see how much amiga content there is on internet , users respond and
it makes you wonder if there are only so few of us left.
And don't tell that they are all UAE users.
BTW my 400MHz pc popped off last week so I have to use my Amiga now :-(
... well I mean " :-) "
I don't understand why people complain about their amigas get broken and have
to return to their "trusty" PC. My amigas (I have 4 of them) work faultless
for over 10 years now (software AND hardware wise) whereas I encounter problem
with PCs every awhile.

In reply to Comment 9 (sutro):
I don't love my Peecees.
I sold my 1200 in the october '95 because i thought the Amiga was death at that time.I think that time was the worst for the Amiga comparable to the period post cancellation of the project Amiga NG of Gateway till the aquisition of Amino.
I was very pessimist at that time because i thought that Escom killed Amiga:they wanted to sold the new 1200 at the price of 1.300.000 italian lire!
When 1200 went in selling in the beginning of '93 it cost less than 800.000 italian lire!
When i bought my second-hand 1200 in january '94 i paid it 500.000 i.l.!
So Amiga really was in the hand of crazy people and i discouraged.
There is more.At that time hard-drive for Amiga were very expensive and not powerful(i'm talking about 2,5'' for 1200).
I think that Escom commercially killed Amiga.
Our luck was the Escom bankrupcy.Could their Walker be our safety?I mean that it was idiotic mistake.
Now i cannot return to buy a classic Amiga because to strengthen a basic Amiga in modern standard is too much expensive and not simple.
There is not Amiga assistance everywhere.Actually all this "sacrifice" is not compensated by software disponibility.I see there is good software for the Amiga. But maybe his variety (example n. of games)can't satisfy me and many other people.
Finally,i admire you for your faithfulness to Amiga.
I mean that if in '95 i was richer,i was not obliged to sell my beloved Amiga.
And all my story with Amiga could be different.
Ciao!
P.S.I accidentally broken Cd32 when i tried to open the box to see it inside!
I know,it was very stupid.I even had the 1200 and a 500 for years and they always worked wonderfully!

12800 isn't an realistic guess. He just spits out a low number so everyone who haven't bought will feel guilty and buy one.
My reg number was over 25000 and a friend of mine had over 30000

Hardware is hard to get first hand. PPC & GFX cards are becoming
available again. I just bought a Cyberstorm PPC-250 w/ 060-72 &
128 megs of ram from Software Hut for my A3000. They are getting
shipments again on Phase5/DCE products. My CVPPC should be available
in about 2 weeks.
check www.softhut.com for details. I'm sure other dealers will also
have product available.

In reply to Comment 1 (Roberto C.):
Me to. I sent my A4000 away over 2 months ago for repair. I'm still waiting for
it to come back. I had to get a winblows system in the meantime. I surf every
Amiga site there is everyday and use winUAE daily. I'm still an Amigan I just
don't have a working Amiga computer anymore.

1.Excuse me for my bad english knowledge!
2.Petro said that the number of Amiga users is only 100.000 in the world.
It sure realistic and it's a little number. And he said that this number is fast decreasing and it's true, sure.
But there are many many people in the world that don't have an Amiga computer but are Amiga fans like me.
I've sold my 1200 in the october 95 and now i have only a cd32 broken.
But i have Winuae and i use it every day (even in my laptop)and every day i search Amiga news in the Net and finally i am recent subscriber of the only printed italian magazine survived.Even me,not Amiga user,i consider myself an Amigan. So Amiga is not so near to the death.Simply many people like me is waiting for a new Amiga to buy it.
So Amiga Inc.,give us the AmigaNG!

Guys, check out all the used Amiga stuff on eBay. Much of it is old games,
but there is some good HW interspersed with all the junk. I got an A1200/w
HD for about $120USD. I'm not sure how many italian lire that comes out to,
but the prices seem more reasonable than the "impossible" to get new stuff.
If you really want a classic machine, they are out there, but you have to
