Sauro writes: Marble Eyes (Genetic Species) will no longer support Amiga... now all their plans are on PC market. I've asked Martin Halberg and this was his answer: "Our next project is "It came for Zog", but it's for the PC platform only. And that's because we don't whant to work for free again 3 more years as with Genetic Species. :(( We have to live and no one will support us financialy with an Amiga game".

So who ever said their games had to be either Amiga only or Pee Cee
only? Why not do both for chrisakes!? Is it that @#$&ing hard?!

Well, no one will support you on the PC either either- In case you forgot, even PC makers won't make those anymore- Linux and Amiga/Tao now- remember???
And stop bitchin- The Amiga is probably the only system that would make the software look any good anyway...

In a word, yes. There's a world of difference between programming for the PC
and for the Amiga..

I have at least seen people BUY Amiga software. I have never once
seen anybody do that for PC, although there's any number of ppl
pirating PC software since the world began...
Is it really that much different?

Many people bought it. It sold a lot, but the AMIGA market is small. Piracy
on Winsuck is much more so than AMIGA. GOOD LUCK..you're going to have a very
difficult time with the winsuck market.
As for GS...Great game! It was well worth the money, and the updates were
very nice. You never charged for the Updates so where does this "working for
free" come in? You also didn't advertise GS much.
I'm glad I own it. I also cleaned up the scripts a bit myself. :) You will
decide to come back some day and when you do we'll welcome you back. :)
Afterall...many Amigans are good and solid people who BUY what they LIKE and USE.
Best wishes.

To be honest, i cant blame them for dropping the amiga market. The amiga market can no longer sustain more than a few full time companies, and the user base is dwindling all the time. I wish them a lot of luck, and hope to see them back when the new amiga is released!

I tell you, you'd be surprised at the number of Amiga's in games companies. They are mainly used for DPaint, although admittedly this will cease to be necessary soon as pretty much all games will be totally 24-bit so Photoshop will probably be man of the match.

Today, I spoke with a friend of mine who works for Activision in California. He was telling me about a bunch of new games his company is developing. I asked him if he "remembered Commodore's Amiga." He responded cheerily with, "Oh yeah, we still have them in our offices. In fact, we still support it because there's a lot of people out there who still really like and use Amigas. We recently released Heritic II and [something else]."
I mentioned to him about the current Amiga development and he said "Yeah, we've heard about that . . . sounds neat!"
I find this all to be very amazing, really.

That is very interesting. See if you can get some more info from your friend about what Activision are doing with their amigas
I find I amazing that a big software house like Activision would still have Amigas around. Lets hope that
they are awaiting the "big return" of the Amiga like the rest of us!.

I can vouch for the fact that Activision has a PPC equipped A4000.
It's for the QA on Heretic 2, we shipped to them.
Most of the Activision people remember the Amiga fondly.

If there's so much difference, how come Doom and Quake took about a
week to port? Most of the time spent with a game is on the graphics,
sound, and gameplay...if you write clean code, then the matter of
getting the graphics to the screen and the sound out of the speakers
is relatively trivial.

It's suprising how many companies have a copy of DPaint IV installed because there just isn't anything else that compares to it, not bad for a piece of ageing software.

In reply to Comment 15 (Mike Clarke):
I think that the reason for so many people using DPaint could very well be because it is a great palette-based bitmap editor. I have been using Photoshop for years and while it is one of my favourite pieces of software by a long way it simply isn't worth using for anything but hi-colour work. Even when drawing a line or a rectangle, placing it accurately is quite difficult as Photoshop's rendering is maths and not pixel based. (Don't take that as it bing a vector package though, that's not what I meant at all :) )
All the best...
Conor
