One thing, I think Amiga should be careful of is Microsoft's X-Box. I hope MS aren't going exclusive on NVidias NV15 chip, otherwise platforms won't stand a chance (from a gamers perspective), even though it's almost two years away.
In order to outsmart the X-Box, the Amiga must be superior in just more than an OS. Check out the MPEG video of the X-Box's capabilities at www.gamespot.com and you'll see, what I mean.

This update is THE BUSINESS!!! Bill has really gone back to the Miggys roots to try to capture the essence of it and he has reflected this in Amigas(corp) style and structure. The partnerships are NOT PC High Flyers however, that is the reason I like them....good on ye guys!
People are complaining that it's "waffle", but don't forget, Bill had to take time out to write the "waffle" ;). At least applaud him for that. I'm looking forward to creating games and apps(i'm no programmer) on a wonderful machine that puts the Person into Personal Computer.

Games are good, but it how many non-Amigans will buy one *instead of* a
Sony/Sega/whatever? It has to also be a better browser and a better
"AOL access appliance" and a better mp3jukebox, and be highly secure, and and.and
Or else somehow outshine the $400 celery clones that litter the marketplace.
600 square feet. This would be like David the paramecium meets Goliath.
I want my pathfinder system. Tell me, what use could I have for a
"developer" system, if I could get one?
(Sorry, but this seems to be at the caterpillar stage, when we all want to buy
butterflies. Maybe it's a big April fools' joke and they will show up with
a truckload of ........... Amigas.)

The X-Box, please. It's nothing but a low-end PC with a high-end graphics board. It will run a special version of Windows 2000 and will be released Q3 2001. Some threat. By that time we will have G5 and nobody in nVidia is crazy enough to just give their chips to Microsoft.

Nonsense.
If you equip a 1200 or 4000 with a high-end G3 and a high graphics card like the Geforce or TNT2, you can do anything that is done on PC.

Why does Amiga do a new OS when we already have the wonderfull XXX (take your

The answer is easy - choices. There are people that don't like Renderware at
all. There are people that like OpenGL, and others like Direct3D.

Who said we are only going to do PC conversions? We are doing this *now*
because that is the only way to get games to the Amiga fast (if you don't
believe me look at how long your usual game project is in development).
Our goal right now is to keep people from leaving the Amiga. That's a thing
we can do *now*, not in two years; there won't be any Amiga people left anymore.

Hey, I'm beginning to belive! =)
I've been drowning my sorrow with Absolut Vodka ever since G2k bought Amiga,
(I really thought they bought it just to get rid of it once and for all...)
but now I'm beginning to get THAT feeling again... Do you remember? (It was back in the 80's I belive...;)
I can feel it SO bad, it's time, we're back! =)))
I wish all the people in the office the best of luck!
And I wish that all on the field will put faith in this new era and live it to max.

Renderware is really nice. I just bought a new ViperII Savage2000 32MB AGP video card and it came with a game that uses Renderware. This game is awesome. I look forward to the new Amiga OS, and the new games. I'm sure there will be alot of ports at first, but the Amiga community has always been able to come up with new and original titles that up-the-ante just a bit. I'm sure that will continue on the new OS.

It does almost sound too good too be true. But this is what I thought Gatemiga
was going to do, i.e. shore up the community...then go with a big new hyper
spec item....it did nothing of the sort...the main difference I see here is that
these promises are being made only about 3 months after Amino took over...
With gatemiga it was about 5-7 months before any real significant announcement
was made (if I am incorrect please correct me, I could be wrong).
Enough of anti-Gateway rants....the cool thing I see is being able to run the
new Amiga on A1200..I hope that would be true for a PPC staffed A3000 also,
or PPC A4000...or even a BOXER(if it ever, please do, appears)....Plus in 3 months, we already have a Dev-BOX.....sounds good....and the staffing additions,
and the TAO training...man,,,it really SOUNDS cool....I hope it is all true!

Despite all experiences from the past, I still have hope and the last ex.-update sounds great to me.
I'm also happy that Amiga cooperates with Hyperion, because games are the most important part. Or do you think Windows is so successful because of its features and stability?
Executive Update : Comment 9 of 58ANN.lu
Posted by Andre on 12-Mar-2000 23:00 GMT
In reply to Comment 8 (Torsten):
As far as I´m concerned, Hyperion will be just converting PC games.
They don´t intent to produce new original Amiga entertainment titles.
However, Amiga Inc.´ll need some killer-games that won´t be available
on any other platform, to attract a lot of gamers.
If there are just PC conversion, why should anybody buy one of the
new Amigas? Excep of the OS, there will be no difference at all.
But many gamers don´t mind whether their computer is running Windows
or Elate....
Hopefully, Epic Marketing can help to develop some innovative Amiga-only
products that "will blow away the competition!" (CD32 trailer)

In reply to Comment 9 (Andre):
Hyperion is for the moment converting games.
But it doesn't mean that we're going to make this forever.
Creating a game nowadays requires lots of financial and humans ressources.
The point for the moment is to have some great games on the Amiga to settle a market. Then, with the dedication of fans, press covering and new Amiga available, it will be maybe time to build again a real Amiga game development team, creating its own products.
But this will be another story. Yet, the point is to provide the Amiga with games it deserves. And Hyperion, with Heretic II in a few weeks, will contribute to this goal.

In reply to Comment 11 (Ben Yoris):
Hi Ben.
If you read this: Why are you and Amiga Inc. making a 3D engine together, when Elate already has the truly wonderfull Renderware?
Renderware would make conversions from Dreamcast, PC and PS2 relatively easy (if the new Amiga has the hardware to match) AND it is also extremely user friendly for making original games!
ALSO: If most new Amiga systems runs on A1200/4000s with PPC cards, it will be impossible to make any games comparable with other next generation machines; Then how on earth is the NG Amiga going to attract gamers in the future?

The buzz is back :-)
==
All I know is that recent events have spurred me on to splash out 1000UKP with
UK distributers refurbishing my Amigas with goodies in anticipation for an
Amiga rennaissance. Thats pretty good for a hardware platform that I mothballed
6 months ago for a highspeed PC/Linux setup. It was a joy to switch the old
beasties on and use PPaint, Photogenics and Hisoft C++! It was also a joy to use
a well designed keyboard for once!
And thats just 2 days of online purchases :-) Im lining up another wodge for
the BoXeR if it materialises and G4 cards when they appear.
I was going to kit my house out with wireless networking based on the PC systems, Im now going to do it with Amiga. Ive already written code to manage
the stock control ( bar code reader on fridge ), online shopping, mini-digicams which I can connect to from work. The only downside is I cant shell out for flat
panel LCDs. I have to have 5 14" monitors on brackets around the house each
using X-servers running on an A1200 motherboard cased into a cupboard shelves connected to the rather spaghetti like ethernet loop! These were due to be ripped out and replaced with the AMD K6-2 powered motherboards from cheap PCs!
Instead of getting really lazy with my PCs Ill get really lazy with my Amigas now. Ill just sell the PCs to pay for it.
Anyway fancy helping to port Elite III when the source code is posted?
All the best, I think Amiga is back - lets see people spending money on their
systems again. I want to see MCIBTYC arguments back!
Dave.

In reply to Comment 26 (Michael Jantzen):
for a start its been over 5 yrs since commodore had the amiga get the
facts straight please. in that time since commodore did go (1994
april) the amiga was owned by *wait for it* two _pc_ companies who
made what _pc_ products who never delt with _amigas_ ever before who
never relied on the _amiga_ to keep their jobs or for the firm they
work in to keep existing. amiga corp though they founded the firm from
a bunch of amigans their funders were amiga developers and had genuine
amiga interest they are not a pc company and if the amiga dies they
go down and loose it all. so think on that. but really look at the
comparisons too here again. escom owned the amiga for ages and did
nothing significant with the exception of the "walker" which we all
know about but lets face it the walker was a bit of a hack when u
think on it no genuine effort t o relaunch the platform there. and
then we have the gateamiga situation those guys _never_ intended to
make anything of the platform so what do u expect??? look at those
guys they had the amiga for about 3+ yrs or so they took fuckin yrs
before they even announced a new machine tobe built let alone anything
else and when they did speak 95% of their speeches were feel good
wanking with slight traces of facts which told us nothing new and it
took them yrs to get anywhere. now look at amiga corp owned the
machine since jan basically and now only -3- months on they have two
direct technology partners established dealer network reestablished
aac designed a developer box and will launch it at the beginning of
the 4th month after buying the platform and they have moved their
premesis to a better larger location where they r to hold 70 employees
and they have already recruited alot of *quality* amiga hware and
sware developers who have been in it since the start and truly *know*
the amiga and some of amigas key developers too as well as a plenty of
"other worlds" (java pc etc) developers with a big list of credits of
_succesful_ ventures to their names and started training their staff
for a few months now they got there straight into it soon as they
established the technology partners and more all in 3months basically
so pleeeasse dont start with the bullsht about them being no diff to
past owners when they r a completely different ball game when their
ACTIONS and NOT talk is where any one is welcome to judge them
upon.

mind is this:
If this new "Virtual Processor" type OS will run just as easily
on a "PC" as an Amiga, why should any of us continue to buy
expensive Amiga hardware? I've already been running my A1200
with the Blizzard PPC board, and have been drooling over the

C'mon guys, Give me a reason to stick with my trusty ol' 1200.

Specification for new amiga :
cpu: Intel P3 cpu (or athlon)
gfx chip : any current PC gfx boards
sound : any current PC sound card
OS: Amiga OS (elate)
Basicly it's a PC,just without windows (althought you can always use it)
So what do you wait for ? Go and buy this "new amiga" right now in neariest shop !
Fuck off Amiga Inc.
What happiens is very, very bad. They try sell PCs (read: developer machines) to
current amiga software makers !
It can end as every amiga maker will get a PC and IF something happiens with Amiga Inc.,
they will have this fucked PC and probably develop for it too.
I think it's all very bad.
To amiga inc. peoples (I know u read it):
Please, don't sell us PCs.If you can't make NEW hardware (no money or something),
don't do anything at all,or just make any useful software for PCs !
I have nothing against Intel chips or so.I know it's good (well, not so bad as many think),
and u can use it,but at least this NEW AMIGA MUST NOT RUN WINDOWS !!!
duh...think about this all
