Yesterday evening, I asked ImageNetworks if it would be possible to no longer display any Gateway banners in their default ad rotation for ANN, and as of today, you should no longer see any Gateway ads on here. :)

Excellent! Gateway doesn't deserve it since they lied to us by
promising and never delivering (and they probably never intended to in
the first place) the new Amiga.

don't know why it was so important that it deserved an announcment though... Besides, I own three Gateway computer systems and never had a problem running linux on them 8^)... and I still use my Amiga as the primary computer system.

Ironically, if the AOL machine is Amiga based as rumoured, Gateway may
be spreading Amiga technology into millions of homes.
A trojan for Amiga, who can then say "your AOL box can also run our
software and do all this".

What rumour? Where did you hear that?
I agree with the above, that Gateway had (under the guise of Amiga) lied to us.

Nope, I think it's more like...
The AOL box may be based on the work of the Gateway employees
who were previously known as the Amiga division of Gateway.
("Gateway Objects" on Linux?)
NOT on anything from Amino/Amiga/Tao & friends.

I really don't care if I see Gateway ads or not. Actually, on
this site, most people won't by their products due to their
duplicitous treatment of the Amiga "community"...so they are
just wasting their time here...
Anyway, anybody could build a box just as fast as it would take
themto deliver it, so why use 'em?
Also, they have been pretty quiet about their "internet" device.
Maybe so many other companies have "devices", that they gave up
on that one too?
Goodbye Gateway, maybe the only money you will make in the near
future is on the Amiga patents.

I don't know Christian. I suspect you were earning more money out of Gateway than they were out of any advert ran on ann. ;-)

I wasn't earning much. I think most of their campaigns are CPC (I can't check
with ImageNetworks but on Burst! that was the case). Cost-per-click obviously means I only get paid if somebody visits them, which is/was improbable.

I like the idea of the Bill Gateway ads removed but I ignored them for the
most part (even though I cringed when I DID take notice, hehe). Only 1 good thing
came out of Lameway, & that was letting Amiga license. Of course, they would have
done a lot better to have SOLD IT ALL to them, but they're a Huge company whom
only cares about Green ($$) & NOT able People.
On a curious note...I wonder how many Bill Gateway people read ANN & have checked
out this thread? Probably none...but... ;)

It is refreshing to see that the Gateway add is now gone. I used to be a regular Amiga supporter and user up until last September (1999). Something happened back then and I tink Gateway may have something to tdo with it. You see I teach PC repair and hardware course at the local college. When a student would ask about alternatives to the buggy and restrictive Windoze, I would always respond with "Well there is Mac .... " upon which they usually responded with "Yech!!!!" (I do not know why as I also have a Mac, and though it is not my favorite computer, I find nothing wrong with it.) That response is usually my cue to let them know about Amiga. Most people now have never heard of Amiga, or only remember that their dad had one a long time ago. I would let them know that by Christmas, something wonderful was going to appear in the stores. I had about a quarter of my students waiting in anticipation. Then a few people left Gateway (voluntarily or not) and the whole thing was scrapped. Later Phase 5 died. I took my money that I had put aside for an accelerator and got myself I standard PC (standardcrashes alot, at least with Windoze). I now spend most of my time exploring Linux, finding it very interesting. The crashes are gone also ... I was convinced there was something very wrong with my hardware. Since then I have not looked back at the Amiga world. I know there is a new company called Amino, and I saw in a news site that a new machine is promised for April. I will even check it out when it does, but I will NOT hold my breath. As I have to keep abreast of changes for my PC course, I have seen some of the products planned from HP, Dell, and especially Sony for next Christmas. I'm afraid it's just too little too late from our old Amiga. The only small chance that I see is the fact that so many companies want to jump the MS ship. As a used-to-be-die-hard-Amiga user, I will finish with this; As a PC instructor, I recomend PC brands everyday. Guess which brand I tell everyone to stay away from? Can you say moo?
