Amiga's new website is up. I didn't find a lot of content yet, but at least the layout and structure seems better now.

It will take some time before all nameservers will timeout the old
IP'nr and requsest the new. SO if anyone out there get the new site
would kindly supply it IP so the rest of us can check the site I at
least would be very happy.

I hope they can do better h/w and s/w developement? Hope its not

In reply to Comment 10 (John B):
If you use their IP-adres http://209.15.87.244 off course it will show a mess. Remember that all links still link to http://www.amiga.com untill the nameservers have been updated. So if you press a link i.e. the products link you will get redirected to http://www.amiga.com/products/ which off course still doesn`t exsist, BUT if you type the URL in manually like http://209.15.87.244/products/ it does. That`s why the pictures still don`t show as well. :)
Sincerely, Mike Bouma.

It's only a mess whilst you use the IP address, it will sort itself out when you use the proper URL later.
Bit disapointed there is'nt another executive update, oh well, maybe in a few days.

In reply to Comment 10 (John B):
C'mon people, since the site hasn't made it through the DNS mess yet it's not surprising that none of the images display properly. Think about it, since all the images are hanging off www.amiga.com and that site still officially references empty space they won't load automatically. If you want to see the image then you have to view the source of the page and substitute the IP address of the site for the www.amiga.com part of the address then all will become clear.

Just tried it and I seem to get a weird hybrid site. The HTML is all for Amiga.com, though all but two images loaded are for "Downtown.com" which is apparently 'The Evolution of Online Shopping'. It then redirects to grafx.com with a 403 error.
Very weird... dontchya just love DNS troubles...

They have placed a <BASE HREF="http://www.amiga.com/"> tag in the source so only a bit of the site will load mouse overs as they are accesses before the base Href tag in the source. Why they are using this tag I don't know.
View sourse save your your machine and replace www.amiga.com with 209.15.87.244
and move to just after the head tag and the images load you can then link to the other pages but they fall into that as well.
I must admit that it looks cool pity about the image bottom left of menu on the home page must be in a cell with cellspacing or cellpadding greater than 0 altogether a very nice looking home page
I will rate it on http://www.amigaglobe.com/ when the site is up.

As of 14:25 BST the Old amiga.com website is back! (the one from Schindler/Collas era) I guess this site was designed by Bill/Fleecy/a friend of either and that's why they've put it back.
I have to say I think it's a lot better than the existing site anyway! I look forward to seeing more content shortly.

But he's right though. It's the same site amiga.com used to be before it was linked to amiga.de.
I quite like it though. never understood why they replaced it with the amiga.de one. Maybe
Gateway did it to scare serious developers away?

In reply to Comment 23 (justin):
Actually, the reason the old Amiga site as seen now on www.amiga.com was replaced by the German site is because of internal powere struggles that occurred mostly between Petro and Darreck Lisle of all people. If that fight had not been won by Amiga International, the resurrected site design probably would have been in place for the last three years. And thanks to those of you smart enough to figure out what was causing the problems with the images. All's well that ends well. Expect amiga.net to have a different look before long, too, methinks.

It's better than the old one, but.......
http://www.softimage.com/
I was hoping for something more like the url above. Same kind off color scheme, same kind of icons, but a lot more ooomph! The new/old Amiga site doesn't stick out like I'd want it to. Not something you tell your non Amiga friend to check out. Sorry, but it just isn't "there".

In reply to Comment 30 (BH):
I agree The soft image site has that bang that the Amiga site should have. The new design( or old Design) is okay but it just lacks the bang. I want to see a jazzed up site that will reflect the new Amiga. But then again Amiga inc. I hope will create a better system then web page. I'll give them a break because they have done so much in three monts then Gateway ever did in three years.

To all those having DNS trouble:
Most (if not all) TCP/IP stacks for the amiga supports setting
up "local DNS" (or whatever it's called).
For Genesis do this:
* Fire up configuration
* Select "Database" from the menu
* In the top cycle gadget, select Hosts
* Add a new entry with "209.15.87.244" as IP Addr and
"www.amiga.com" as Name
* Save changes and switch to offline, then online again.
* quit and restart your browser.
AFAIR the procedure for Miami is much the same...
(BTW. remember to delete the entry later, or you might be
in for some truble later ;-)

Whilst it seems like a really good improvement on the old site, I think it is still lackinga really professional presence. It just seems very dated. Still, I guess we're stuck with it, as I doubt they'll be designing a new site in the near future.

I can't believe that 6 days after the big show event
they still don't have a running site with all the
news and announces and even more...
I think they still have far to go in the communication
field... (whatever the reasons for the lateness)...
the web site would have had to be ready BEFORE the
event! Look at other main firm web sites and make
the parallel... enough said.

settlement over the weekend we would have had them up on Monday.

Hmm, the Softimage site looks nice initially, but as a web site it
sucks quite profoundly. All graphics, no text, messed up design
with too much horizontal scrolling, broken frame code (maybe the
javascript works better but since hardly anybody can write proper
javascript, maybe not).
Then again, it's better to have something that (sort of) works, as
opposed to the "new" Amiga site, which I can't judge because it's
*still* not working.

I agree that the softimage website doesn't work on all levels, but the visual "impact" factor seems to be there at least. As for the javascript, the new Amiga site has javascript mouseovers as well. You can have both graphics, and then the text links as well on the page. I hate frames, so I wouldn't add that either.
I threw together a prototype in my spare time of what I was kind of thinking. It has no navigation yet, lacking content and the likes, but you might get the idea of what I was thinking...

Frames have their uses...I generally don't like them, but I did do a
site that used them.
As for www.icenter.net/~huebs/amiga/ ...very nice Amiga graphic
indeed! However it failed to display properly on any Amiga browser I
tried, although it worked on IBrowse if I resized the window to around
640 pixels wide. I only glanced at the source so I'm not sure why
this is.
