ANN v2 pre-release 13 implements a slightly different layout, some refinements in the info display and an entirely rewritten article navigation, which should make it a lot easier to locate older news items. As usual, please report any errors or bugs you might find.

How about a search function?
(Or a bigger link to a search function if there's already one :))

In reply to Comment 1 (Jason):
There's no search feature yet. I'm still unsure how to implement it, since the last three and a half years worth of news items are stored in at least three different formats, and each one of them would require a special approach to make them searchable in a sensible way.

The titles are still missing on the comments pages. Don't you want to fix it, Chris?
How about to turn the 'reply to comment #'s into links, it's a question of a html-tag, as there are the 'quick-links' already, isn't it?

In reply to Comment 4 (Victor):
Ideally, I'd like to fix all these things in one go, with a complete rewrite of the comments script. But I'm always pushing this idea further ahead in the future, because it means a lot of work and possibly giving up compatibility to the old comments system.
But be assured, I'm still considering doing all this "some time soon", which means that eventually "pre-release" will disappear.

Regarding a search function, what format/s is everything stored in? I
hope you're using some kind of SQL (or otherwise) database system
nowadays - why not write an import script to bring in the older
formats? Once everything's in one format it should be easy :)
Failing that if its all in HTML files (which I have a feeling it might
be), you could run a server side grep and try to parse the output
intelligently.
I'd like to see some effort put towards a search function, there's SO
many times I've wanted to look up and old ANN story it's not funny,
and there's no decent Amiga news search ability anywhere now since the
AWD went down with all hands aboard.
If you want a hand, email me privately to discuss it - I don't mind
doing a bit of cut and pasting for you :) (Besides I don't think I've
had an email from you since ~1996 or so :))

I'm not using any kind of database.

All recent articles are stored in plain-text format. Older articles
were stored in hsc (a HTML pre-processor) files and compiled to HTML.
These old articles data back to the time when I was only focusing on
Usenet, and therefore every article has a corresponding local copy of
a Usenet article.
Converting the articles since March 99 should be relatively trivial,
but might require some changes to the layout engine, since the old
format catered for newsgroups, had links to a Dejanews author profile,
etc. Converting articles older than that means going through one
file per month, cut&paste the articles to individual files, and only
then make adjustments to the article format as such.

Right now, I don't have the time for converting those 2000 (approximatively)
articles, and I'm not sure whether it would be worth the time. Only few people
are checking out the old archives.

I'm very bad at keeping up with emails, perhaps that's why only few people
hear back from me as much as I'd like to.
I'd appreciate if somebody could convert the old articles for me, but it's
