Some thoughts on advertisements on this site, as well as a clarification. Please read more below. When I mentioned AmigaOnline and Eternity in the same sentence a few days ago, I was perhaps a bit unfair towards the later. After all, Eternity did pay me for five months, and apparently the payment for the sixth and final month is now also on its way.

But Eternity still seem to think that I artificially inflated my visitor count during the six months that I advertised them, and they argue that the day I stopped advertising them my visitor count went down. Now, I almost finished parsing my server logs, and that should give them, and everybody else who might be interested, sufficient proof that my visitor count always went up over the last few months, and that I billed both Eternity and AmigaOnline correctly.

A few Amiga companies contacted be after I put the yellow "sponsors wanted" box up on ANN some time ago. Some didn't get back to me after I sent them my rates, some argued that I was pretty expensive, a few might be advertising on ann.lu in the near future.

As you might have noticed, I've been displaying a lot of generic banner advertisements through ad agencies lately. The advantage of using ImageNetworks or AdFlight over any Amiga sponsor is that I can be sure that they pay, and I can be sure that they trust me and don't accuse me of cheating. The downside is that since their banners are untargeted, I am not making a lot of money, recently I've been getting around 1$ per thousand impressions for the top right banner. For the record, Eternity paid 2€, AmigaOnline agreed to pay 3$. I believe this is a fair price, considering how ANN.lu is one of the premium targets if you want to advertise Amiga hardware, software or services. Industry-wide, targeted advertising is rarely going for less than 4$ or 5$ per thousand impressions, and can occasionally go as high as 20$.

Another point. Money is what keeps ANN alive. If I wasn't making any money through the advertisements, I would have closed down ANN a few months ago.

Just a few points to consider...
