Visitors to the Czech Amiga News pages are now being redirected to Wintopia2000, ExiE's and CZEX's new project. Just two years ago we brought to you the first Amiga news. Many things happen and we feel it's time to move to the "real world". New Amiga is still nothing more than immagination but it is possible we come back sometime in the future. Thanks for your favour and bye bye...

There is already such a section, but it's unused right now. I was hoping one
of the new moderators could take care of it.

Sad to see CzAN go, it was one of the premeire Amiga pages for current news. However I suspect they needed more traffic for their banner ads. Anyways I thank them for their service. Frankly I dont know how they will do going from one of the best Amiga pages to just another Windows one? I mean after CNET and others, who'd think about going to them?
Regards,
Fabian

Hmmmm... The email address linked to the 2nd Ann. story does not work. The
start bar at the bottom of the page does some odd things (try shut down and
some others).
My guess is it's a hack.
If its not then good luck to them - but it doesn't make much sense...

In reply to Comment 1 (Don Cox):
ANN is a daily read for me along with other IT based websites.
Its sad to see CAN go but if we`re actually honest for a moment, I dont think (currently) that there`s enough news to go around as it is.
Maybe in the next "Amiverse" everything will be so much better, But of course only time will tell on that one.
My advise is to support as many Amiga sites as you can, Alot of Amiga Websites are run by people like me, and Christian, It makes our day when we here and get good feedback from users.
If you like what we do, tell us! :)

They are stupid. Why to close down in this very moment when thing just get in motion? (If once they survived the bad times?)
Anyway, it means more visitors on ANN. I just miss the frequent apps announcement. Maybe Christian should consider to extend ANN with such section (like Apps news)...

That's one site off my hotlist then. This used to be my favourite source of Amiga news, now I'll have to sniff it up by myself again. In a couple of weeks time, maybe less, I'll start regular news updates on my own site again. Of course, it will not be anywhere near CAN's greatness, but still I hope to provide an updated source of Amiga news. I'll post to ANN when my site is ready again.

Wow, that was a bolt out of the blue, no warning..nothing.
Oh well, maybe it`s a lesson that all the other Amiga sites should pool resources..like a previous poster said, too many sites, not enough news
Dont desert us now ANN...

Real world my ASS. If they want the real world do they intend giving their kiddies a new gun for Christmas? Anyway woopie I just love the world if Micro$oft inadvertedly shoved in my fase (Isn't that some kind of human rights breach?) Anyway if its a joke its a weak one, and if its real then They can ram it right up their tight asses. Oh and I hope ANN will do software news as another comment said. It was the best bit of CAN. Keeping track of program updates isn't easy.

Just to add my 0.02$, I'm getting a mixed impression of their sudden change of
mind. At least I think it must be sudden, I didn't speak to ExiE for years.
Especially the Windows ME advertisement is very suspicious, since there is no
ad script beneath it. Might just be a placeholder until some serious ad
arrives, but then again the choice of Microsoft seems a very odd one.
I guess the main reason for doing a Microsoft-centric, or at least a general
PC industry website, would be to get more traffic and make more money. But
even though they redesigned their layout, they aren't using any affiliate
programmes. They are doing direct links to Google and Altavista, even though
these two have an affiliate program.
Then, they are linking to Compaq, Intel, AMD, without any apparent reason.
Even Amiga sites don't prominently link to amiga.com, so why a start-up PC site
would link to these manufacturers is quite beyond my comprehension.
As for the news selection as such, they are up for some tough competition.
They do not have any comments system, and no specific information on the
article (ie. who wrote in, when was it written, what's a quote and what's
original content, etc.). It might have been adequate on the Amiga, with just
a handful of competition out there, but on the PC with hundreds of major sites
serving a larger but yet finite market, I doubt they will find instant success.
Anyway. I wish them all of luck.
As for the remaining Amiga news sites, of which there are now only three large
ones (amiga.org, amiga-news.de and ANN), it will be interesting to see how
things are developing.

I'd say its hacked.
It has got to be.
If not.. It's the lamest thing I have seen in a while.
Yes i also noticed there is no ad script, or any refferal URL to the MS advert.
Someone has most probably hacked realdreams.cz (They run on NT, any serious web hosting company would use Unix/Linux with Apache)
Maybe they use an Outlook script for automating replies to e-mail help queries.
And someone has exploit the recent Outlook bug to run a backdoor on their machine.
Well, we will see tomorrow when the site would normally be updated.
But then again, I'd say if it was hacked, they would of changed the password to the CAN account.
Looking at the site again, a bit of effort has gone into doing this, pretty sad if it was hacked and they spent all that time designing such a lame page,
that is only going to be up for a day or so.

In reply to Comment 11 (Splatt):
I'm wondering if anybody sent an email to the CzAN team and received any
kind of answer from them concerning the change... That would probably clear
things up quite a bit.
But on the other hand, they had other such deadlines in the past, so who
knows. Maybe they said that if by their 2-year-birthday they didn't have
XX traffic or YY revenue they would do this.
But then again, I'd still say there is a probability that this is indeed a hack.

A couple of things I noticed which I'm not sure would indicate it was a hack or what.
The "exCzech Amiga News team" link on the end of the 2nd ANNIVERSARY news message originally pointed to www.intel.com but has now been changed to point to his email address
Also when I went to have anouther view of the site during the afternoon it showed the amiga news from yesterday only to find it changed back to the redirect which took me to the PC news site a few minutes later.

Some of the dates here in the comments section are wrong. I was implementing
changes, but I'm not too familiar with my own code, so it took me a while to
get used to it again.

If CAN was hacked then I'll eat my hat (and I don't have one, that shows how
confident I am): they said back at the start of the year that they had lost
all motivation and that they were giving 6 months for the situation to
improve. 6 months finished about yesterday I believe. Why they want to do
a PC news site is rather beyond me though, there's already more of them than
you can shake a mouse at...

I think it a little suspicious that the news items on the revised site consist of a copy and paste of yesterdays news from TomsHardware, a real PeeCee news site. Oh yeah, and one story from ANN shoved in the middle. Items are in identical order too.

Exie is NOT stupid. He wants to close down the site in August 99 and in March 00, but twice he gives it up. He is an realist. Maybe I`m stupid too, but after installing so called SDK on my pshit - I understand him fully. Peter has believe in "classic Amiga", and perhaps he tried this s.c. SDK too. It is really nothing new. Only the OBSOLETE, but classic Amiga is the real Amiga. The "new Amiga" will be a kind of pshit with a lot of software platforms and Amiga will be only the one amongst them. It is ever not sure if there will be
an emulator. I have nothing against Bill, but my (humble) opinion is closer to Squid (MooBunny) and Exie opinions. SDK is nothing new, and nothing with "amiga spirit". I will keep my CLASSIC Amigas until they will work, and I will keep support companies still working on Classic Amigas (H&P, Elbox, etc)

Well, perhaps I'm not really in much of a position to voice an opinion on this, as I haven't seen the SDK in action, but I think the new Amiga sounds exciting. The Amiga needs to evolve, because it is, in many ways, obsolete. I want access to better hardware, a wider software base, and still be able to use my old software. The new Amiga promises this. The SDK is a Linux based developer environment, AFAIK, and shouldn't be mistaked for the new Amiga.

Well, I can understand if they don't want to continue with an Amiga newssite, but if they think this Wintopia-nonsense is going to interest even half the amount of people who have been visiting CAN, they're wrong. There are dozens of much better, established PC newssites out there already. How can these guys even hope to compete with sites who have professional journalists working full time for them? They'd have to come up with something a little (well, make that "a lot") more novel at least.
I'm still hoping that this is either a bad joke, or the site's been hacked.

All the old links and pages are still available.
Sniff.....
P.S. For the people who think that the new Amiga isn't anything *new* - I'd like
to know their reasons why. (I have the SDK myself).

"it is not even sure if there will be an emulator"
That at least is certain. They have Brian King (WinUAE), and Haage
Partner working on it, and it seems Aaron from AROS is joining in too.
In the meantime, I believe there is a simple port of UAE to be
downloaded from the AmigaInc site if you are a registered SDK owner.
(I don't have SDK yet so I haven't tried UAE on it.)

At SWAUG we dont publicise news of the Amiga,Inc's new computer
purporting to be an "Amiga"- we only concentrate on proper Amiga
news... and there hasnt been much of that at the moment- we havent had
any good news worth updating the site over!
However we have an ever expanding support page and links directory.

The could've made a nice message in the Czech Amiga News layout
that stated the reason of it's demise...
Oh well, now i'll make ANN the first button in my Aweb buttonbar... :)
